I took his Japanese film class. Nice guy, but lecture + screening can get long, and sometimes the movies are boring. He grades essays pretty harshly so I had to come up with a badass essay to get an A. There was only one other person who got an A in this class. It's true, there are going to be creeps/otakus/anime freaks/idiots.

I had him for Mod Japanese history. Took the class only cause it fit in my schedule, turned out to be the best decision I made at IU. Challenging, rewarding, and great class interaction. Highly recomend the prof.

His lecture class in Japanese Monsters is pretty boring, but I think that's mainly because there isn't a lot of class discussion. He's very enthusiastic and knowledgeable of the material which makes it better.

I had several Japanese history classes with Keirstead (and the anime class, I admit). Be prepared for long-winded lectures, but overall he's a fun guy who knows his stuff and loves to talk about it. Talk to him in office hours. Be aware that his classes are always swamped with ****ing annoying-ass, smelly otaku.

The class's subject was "Anime" so there was nothing he could do to make it difficult. He was a good prof, but the class was full of idiots so that kind of made getting anything discussed in class difficult.
