Comment:

Capstone class. Did not really follow the syllabus, made us buy books we didn't really use and were of no use anyhow. Late in getting feedback on assignments, often misplaced students' work and asked us to email it. Lost track of what each was doing class by class, occasionally gave good direction, but I basically just did it myself.

Comment:

This was a summer capstone course (6 weeks to write a thesis, yikes!). Prof Main is a sweet man who wants you to do well & he directs you to good sources for your thesis. The class is HARD; he makes you work for your grade. Comments are helpful, but you have to keep bothering him about returning assignments. End grade based on your effort in class.

Comment:

I had Prof. Main for my capstone and do not recommend him. His feedback was often irrelevant and he couldn't remember students' topics from one week to the next. He constantly interrupted students trying to give presentations on the readings or on their capstones, to go off on some tangent of his own. I did my whole paper with no help from him.

Professor Main was helpful in helping me chose a capstone thesis. he helped me shape it and make it much better. He is smart, directs you to great sources and is available to discuss. highly recommended

If you're passionate about Public Affairs, which you should be if you're majoring in it, then definitely take Professor Main. You will learn SO much and will leave the class knowing the foundations of the federal government. His essays are graded tough but you have a chance to rewrite them so you can definitely do well in the class if you work.

Great Professor for Capstone, he will listen to your concerns and work with you to make sure you create the thesis that you want to write. He is a realistic and fair grader, do not assume you are going to do little work and get an A. He wants you to work for it through your research and become an expert in your field.

I took Professor Main for my capstone. He is a very enthusiastic professor. Takes great interest in all of his students' topics and is very helpful. Makes you submit pieces of your capstone throughout the semester so it keeps you on top of it which was good for me because I am usually a procrastinator. Tough but fair grader

Fantastic professor. Loves what he teachers, makes it interesting and is very encouraging + helpful. With that being said, THIS CLASS IS HARD. Tough final, even though he allows rewrites, the 2 papers are HARD. Not an easy A, but definitely a great class if you want to learn something.

This course was reading and writing intensive. Everything you don't want on a final is on his final: cumulative, open-ended, not curved. But it's not impossible. A marvelous experience! Such a brilliant scholar! Interesting lectures delivered on a worthy subject. Don?t miss the opportunity! There aren?t many professors like this around. He is so passionate about what he teaches and is very attention grabbing during his lectures. He is a generous grader when it comes to his two papers that he assigns during the semester. he is very passionate & knowledgeable about the subject matter, only gave 2 papers worth 25%, no hw, alot of course readings (had 5 different textbooks), encourages class participation even though he can lecture straight thru w/ very little interruption. Professor Main really is one of the greatest professors on campus. He KNOWS his stuff inside out, and he's enthusiastic about what he teaches. He allows for rewrites and is always there to answer your question. 2 papers (5-7 pages) and one final exam. So long as you come to class, pay attention, and participate, you'll get at least a B+.
