This class was a lot of work, but fun. Go to class every day and take detailed notes on what he says and on the powerpoint. Detailed notes from lecture will help with an A. Study off the outlines he provides. Quizzes are easy, but midterms and finals are very detailed (ex. quotes, fill in blanks, names).Overall, really enjoyed this class and prof.

Scanlon's a funny and knowledgeable guy, but his tests are ridiculously specific (i.e. asking you to fill in a quote from a 100+ page reading). Lecture is mandatory since he doesn't post slides online. Not an easy class, but enjoyable if you want to learn about Greek myths.

I took this class with confidence that I was going to pass because this was just another breadth course I was going to take. I know now how wrong I was, and though he was a very brilliant teacher, he is very tough in how he grades. Be wary of this class, and do mistake it for being "easy" because it really isn't.

NOT AN EASY A CLASS! He gives out quizzes and tests based on the notes he gives in lecture. It is very in depth, so don't think it will be vague. All the questions are in depth such as "what are the 5 names of athena? Where is pallas athena from?" etc etc. Going to discussion with William Sun is useless, but the other TA is helpful.

Professor has a great sense humor and stories were interesting.Got a B+, because I was late 3x to discussion. My TA was absolutely useless so discussion was a waste of time, but its mandatory so attend it. Books I borrowed from the lib but rarely touched it. As long as u listen durin lec, ull understand the quote questions for the midterm/final

This guy is very biased, and will not help you at all. Plus he is very left wing, and tires to push his political ideology in class.

I LOVE THIS CLASS! one of the best professors i've ever had. Actually, best professor i've had. All you need to do is go to lectures and write down all the notes. He basically gives you the exam based off them. A very comical guy and the topic of discussion is always interesting and amusing. [Highly recommended class]

This was my first Upper Division Class on Greco Roman Cult and Credence, I enjoyed it VERY much. It was very straight forward and solid. There was some discussion, but as long as you take notes and pay attention; tests are easy. He is very funny and very VERY knowledgeable. Great Class

One of the best teachers I have ever had at UCR. Funny guy and super interesting, easy to listen to and follow along. The actual class is a bit challenging but it wouldn't be as great of a class if it wasn't.

fun class, and his lectures are very interesting. You don't need to know the "themes" from the plays for the tests (they are helpful for the essays, though). Tests focus on names, hero's labors, and some of the epithets and vocab from the lectures. You probably shouldn't take this class without at least a basic knowledge of Greek Myth.

Interesting subject, though many names to remember, as it is mythology. One of the TA's is really bad. The final is not that difficult, just skim through the material beforehand.

Very interesting class. The midterms are kind of difficult, but only because there are a lot of names to remember. It's a very interesting course and worth taking.

Unless you're like me and actually enjoy mythology in general, then I don't highly recomend taking Scanlon's CLA 40.

Well he's easy, but one of his T.A's sucks! The class is ok, I get A's on everything, but the essay topics, and discussion topics are quite unclear and a waste of time. Funny guy tho

He's okay. I got A's onmy papers and B's on my midterms and ended up with a B+ in the class. Just make sure you know the vocab for this cours, take good notes and go to one of the TA's review sessions.

An amusing man hehe. Even though I got B's and C's on my essays, I've gotten A's on all the midterms and final (I think....since I ended up getting an A in the class). My advice for his class is take good notes, use the online notes to guide you, and GO TO THE TA STUDY SESSIONS. Really big help!

All you had to do in this class was read, take lecture notes, and look at online handouts. The TA's were also helpful with review sessions. This class was really easy just read, know your vocab and you'll do fine. Make sure you memorize the definition for mythology.
