Took this Fall semester, was always late, never prepared, and taught the proofs behind the problems, but not how to do the exact problem. You have to teach yourself outside of this class, with a terribly written textbook.

If I could give him a 0 I would. Worst professor I've ever had in my life. Extremely tough grader, quizzes and lectures had nothing to do with exams. He takes a whole class to go over 1 problem and then at the end realizes he did something wrong and doesn't fix it. He is always late to class and lets out late.

Absolutely do NOT take Number Systems with Zaslavsky. It's an absolute nightmare and so incredibly stress inducing. He's obnoxiously picky about how you construct your proofs (which, to be fair, is expected for a Proofs/Logic course) but doesn't help teach you how to fix it! You learn nothing in class, and he never went over a single assignment.

Showed up late to most classes. Class ran late because it started late. Came to class unprepared often. Quizzes given very often. Written and online homework. Homework graded at very irregular intervals. Class itself is very book focused.

Mediocre at best. He takes attendance every class, gives extra homework, gives pop quizzes, and is a tough grader. Avoid at all costs. You have been warned.

Horrid. Absolutely horrid. He's a math genius but if you're considering taking his 330 course just don't.

The worst professor I've had at Binghamton. Unorganized, rude, changed the syllabus in the middle of the semester, changed the final at 4:30 the morning of the exam, tried to blame his being behind all semester on his cat, fell asleep during office hours. I would feel sick to my stomach every day before his class because of how anxious it made me.

Honestly, the worst professor ever! If you are unfortunate enough to take his class be prepared to be infuriated and miserable. You'll have to go to class because he takes attendance, but doesn't actually teach. You'll have to read the book and basically teach yourself, and do homework because he grades it for accuracy. Avoid his class if possible!

THE WORST MATH PROFESSOR IN THE DEPARTMENT. He requires attendances but teach nothing in the classes. Just received an email 4:30am in the morning right before the Final exam. He decided to make the open book test to a half open book test. Do not take his classes. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!!

Unorganized and scatter brained. Teaching methods are ineffective and I had to teach myself the whole course. If you want a professor to teach you take this class with anyone else.

I have taken three classes with Professor Zaslavsky. If you want to take an easy, mindless class, do not sign up for this guy. If you want to be challenged, and be given a glimpse into the heart of mathematics, sign up for his class. I consider myself very lucky that I was able to take three math classes with this professor.

For me, this class was extremely hard. The homework assignments were extremely difficult, and his grading was extremely harsh. He does explain concepts fairly well, but you really have to take the time to really think about the material. I tried very hard in this class, and I ended up with a lousy grade. If you don't have to take this class, don't.

I think he is a good teacher overall, but often discusses an unimportant topic for much longer than needed, which leaves no time for other questions or topics. He can be somewhat unorganized, but is pretty good with giving back HW in a timely manner. Do not expect to do well on the homework, he does not expect you to either.

Probably one of the most intellegent people that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The course isn't easy, but you will learn lots. Pay attention, ask questions, go to office hours and do the homeworks. The course is only as good as the effort you put into it, and he demands alot. I had no interest in the topic going in, but he converted me.

Many people on here seem to not like Tom, but I believe it is just because their brains do not function on the same level as his. I thought he was an excellent teacher, and I am looking forward to taking graph theory with him, as well.

Very difficult course however, Zaslavsky will teach it to you well. Expects a lot from students so if your signing up and plan to half ass the class, you wont make it far. Available for office hours, the man is very quirky however, he loves his profession.

Most of the time he had no idea whats going on, and it showed. He knows what he's talking about (when hes not on ridiculous tangents), but has no idea how to convey it to his students. Then, when you go to his office hours to ask for help, he makes you feel dumb and talks down and what not, which isn't fun.

I would never take another class with this guy again. My advice to you: if you have any other options dont take a class with this guy. He doesn't give clear solutions to problems on the homework then will put those problems on the test. just dont take a class with him. your life will be much better off.
