wow. this course really changed how i view the world. i can't speak more highly of dr. potter and her amazing team. not too much reading, and the books are super interesting. lots of in-class essays though. for me the best part was the exposure to literary criticism. i would highly recommend this as an elective! Dr. Potter is a QUEEN!

i absolutely loved this prof. the theme she chose for our class was really interesting. we read shakespeare which i hate but she actually made it enjoyable. she's very energetic and passionate and relatable in a weird way. she doesn't use slides and doesn't allow you to take notes electronically but other than that she's amazing

If you are international student, plz do NOT take her for language requirement! Her assessment is brutal for international student. We do NOT have the commonsense needed for these literatures. It will be brutal for us... if you just wish for a pass, ignore my word. Otherwise, don't take her.

Take these ratings with a grain of salt. The prof was knowledgable and had interesting lectures. Light reading load was good but in class writing assignments and a long final paper were stressing. I was hoping she would make me like English but unfortunately didn't. I got a higher final grade than I expected though.

Tiffany Potter is an excellent lecturer because she tells us everything that we need to know and it is very clear. She's very passionate about the subject matter and really nice too. Note-taking by hand is encouraged and reading material is good (both in quantity and quality).

Tiffany is super engaging, concise and well-spoken. Her theme was "Humanity's Biggest Questions" (Othello, Life of Pi, Island of Dr. Moreau, misc. poems) that mainly tackled what exactly defines humanity vs. animals, the motivations and consequences of character's actions. Taking good notes during her lectures is key though - she doesn't use PPT.

Dr. Tiffany Potter's lectures are amazing, she is very passionate about each topic and explains it in a way that I never thought of. The marking is done by her TA's, I was lucky to get a good one.

Potter was hands down the best professor I've had at UBC. She was extremely clear and structured. Made it very clear what was to be expected on exams, gave advice on how to study not only for this class but for everything. Very helpful, interesting and light reading load compared to most english courses. Would take any class with her in the future.

I absolutely hate studying English but Dr Potter actually made lecture engaging on what could be a very dry subject! She expects a lot but I do feel like I actually learned a lot in the class, despite hating the subject. Lectures aren't mandatory but tutorial has participation marks. TAs mark all the assignments so marking is dependent on TA

She is an insanely good lecturer, always captivating and tries to include the whole lecture hall, regardless of their unwillingness to participate, she will literally call upon students to give answers. She is so good and is always very passionate about Engl 110, relating it to contemporary pieces to make it more interesting for everyone.

Smart and interesting, and I liked the way that popular culture was a scholarly topic for the 18th century. Not THAT hard a marker, either.

She was a great professor! I did not like English during my secondary school years but she made it very enjoyable for me! She has a great sense of humour and was so funny when she taught us exam techniques in the last lecture. Definitely take a class with her if you want to take a first year English course. Easy 3 credits for me.

Very passionate, fairly engaging in class and takes the time to get to know you. Her comments on papers are extremely helpful, she clearly wants you to do well. It is helpful to go to class but not mandatory (which I like in an upper level course. Attendance is an annoying way to gain/lose marks that should go towards quality of work turned in).

Her lectures were engaging and she made it clear how to do well in the course. I didn't find her to be a particularly hard marker (I got a high A), but the class average was 66, so make of that what you will.

Professor Potter is an amazing prof. She makes topics so interesting and her lectures are fun and engaging. Take lots of notes and do not miss classes! She is by no means an easy marker. Take advantage of office hours and use her feedback as best as you can. Honestly, one of the nicest most helpful profs I have ever had.

I could listen to her speak all day - she's very interesting and made me see things in a different way. Exams weren't as bad as they could've been as you are given options on what to write about. She goes on about "significance" - when writing, KNOW what you're talking about and WHY!

Awesome prof--interesting and actually interested in engaging what students think, instead of just lecturing. I learned a lot and never wanted to miss a class. She marks hard, but if you do the work you do fine, if you write it the night before, she KNOWS!

Good lecturer, interesting classes, but an odd fascination with class participation instead of lecturing and a ridiculously hard marker, barely passed with papers that would have scored A's with other profs and classes. If you're trying to keep up your GPA, especially to get into a specific program, avoid her like WILDFIRE!
