Comment:
Course is set up very clearly. You know exactly what you'll get and whether you need to show up. Be prepared to teach yourself a lot. Hanks style is very much: you need to know this, don't worry about that. Lectures can be boring if you don't participate. USE THE MODEL KIT! Tests aren't hard if you study practice tests, quizzes, and HW probs.

Like his Organic course, Hank's BioOrg course was very clearly set up, letting you know exactly his expectations. Material was really interesting, and not NEARLY as demanding as organic. Limited knowledge of how applicable to human systems, but still really enjoyed.

Who says Organic is hard? Hanks makes this subject easier than HES! Guarenteed A! You don't even have to come to lecture!

Dr. Hanks isn't the best classroom teacher, but if you get him alone, he is really helpful. O-Chem is hard, period, so be prepared to work regardless of which teacher you get. With Hanks you will probably teach yourself a little more than usual, but this is helpful in the end.

Good professor. He is easier than Goess because he gives partial credit and doesn't put Graduate School level reactions and syntheses on his exams. He is a nice guy and funny too. I recommend him if you must take organic.

Not a bad teacher, but not a good one. If you really love chemistry and study A LOT you'll do okay. If you are like most everyone else then you won't. Tests are not what you expect and not like the practice tests/quizzes. Gives a lot of partial credit tho.

Hard class by definition, but he doesn't make it unmanageable. His explainations are clear if you pay attention. If you do well on the tests, he is sometimes very generous with partial credit.

one word: RUN!! His nots are very disorganized and you end up teaching yourself organic chemistry. The class is hard enough and having him as a professor doesn't help. The tests were hard and there were random questions on them. Study WAY in advance to even have a chance at passing.

hard clas by definition, Trzupek's teaching style suited me more, but he's there for help when you need him. Work hard, study your notes DAILY, and you'll do fine.

This man cannot teach...his notes were sporadic and extremely disorganized and his teaching manner was completely frivolous. His tests were difficult because he expected you to read and memorize the book. You must read the book and be able to teach yourself to learn organic from him.

Prepare to teach yourself Organic Chemistry. He tries, but his notes just aren't very good. Memorize every compound he writes on the board - they'll show up on tests. He'll ask for obscure things. I actually found his tests harder than Trzupek's. Really nice guy.
