Was excited to take this course-BIG mistake. Its a 100-level course, but it works you like a 2nd or 3rd year course. So many complex readings about a place you are entirely unfamiliar with. Do yourself a solid & pass on this class until you have a ton of experience w/ big articles. Nearly impossible to study for the exams. Not worth the headache

I took this course years ago. I am now at a uni out of province and I always compare my current professors to Tim. He is passionate, respectful and engaging. He is so inspiring and sure, he might not post power points but he does it old school, and I love him for that. Take a course with him. Go to class. Listen to what he has to say.

Dr. Paterson is very passionate in teaching Anthropology. The only thing I'm not use to is that he doesn't have any notes or slides. I'm not an Arts major and I have Psychology courses as my electives so I can't talk much about the style of the teaching. However, he does understand the hardships of students and marks fairly. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Paterson is a very intelligent person. He's funny, he's helpful, and he is, above all else, extremely quirky. He assigns very hefty readings which are essential for the tests, but if you put in the work, he'll give you the grade. He has a very shaky voice, but you'll get used to it. Overall, Dr. Paterson is a pleasure to have as a professor.

Love this prof. Took a class with him years ago and he's still on my mind. He's just got a wisdom about him, and he respects student's intelligence too. Paterson presented theory to me in a way that was actually meaningful and relevant to me. I'm at SFU now, and missin' Paterson! Also loved the textbook (Erickson and Murphy).

He's educated, takes everyone seriously, has a twinkle in his eye, encourages interesting debate, and is a beautiful soul. As for his lecture format, I found him to be such a captivating storyteller that I didn't need powerpoints. He does show educationaldocumentary videos quite frequently and they're always top-notch

I did not enjoy this class at all. I went into it with much interest but I could barely sit through one class. He is very monotone and boring, there are no visual slides nor does he post anything online. It is hard to take notes with no visuals. It is mandatory to come to his class but I honestly just want to fall asleep because it gets so boring

Honestly, when you first take this class you'll find it a little difficult since Tim doesn't offer any visual slides, however having to actually jot down the notes as you hear them really helps in learning the material. MC is a little tricky, essay wasn't too bad. Interesting class, would defs take another with him again.

Tim is a really nice guy. He has his own teaching style. He doesn't use power-point for teaching. And he speak quite fast. Maybe i am an international student lol. You need to take note, listen carefully, read the textbook in order to survive in his class.

I'm making it a point to take all his classes he is that awesome! Just be good at taking lecture notes, he doesn't have slides or any guide, but he's super interesting. Although his lecture style is difficult for some, once you get used to it you realize how effective it actually is. He is funny and super approachable too! 10/10 would take again.

Wow. Like previous comments of said- if you want contact with a genius then congrats. This is your prof. Wonderful teacher, wonderful person. Lectures can be dry if you have the wrong attitude but Tim really makes the material captivating. However, dont take this class if you aren't willing to try your hardest.

I loved Tim! He is truly a sweet man and cares about his students! Lectures can be dry, but he is great at pointing out what to study, so listen for the clues! IF you listen for clues you will know what the tests are on! Really read the textbook and take notes and you will do good!

I just love him. He is like one of those "Inspiring" professors you see in the movies, he actually cares about the material - and about you! Tim is so funny and nice (he begins each class with music) and interesting. Definitely the best professor I've ever seen.

Tim is fantastic. Interesting lectures (which he doesn't post, take notes!), lots of videos. Essays are a little difficult, intro covers a lot of material and it's hard to narrow down for studying - listen to the lectures, read the text and pay attention you won't have a problem with them. Helpful and understanding, he's always available for help.
