Probably one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. His handwriting is abysmal. You are better off studying the book since his notes are mostly handwritten. I liked math but he made it dull and boring and had no practical examples to give us. Can be awkward at times. He is very intelligent but not a good lecturer.

Smart Man, but not a good teacher. The worst handwriting I have ever encountered. I'm sure he could write better, but I don't think he wants to. Paid over $2000 for the class, and basically had to learn everything on my own. UAH should make sure professors know how to teach.

Comment:
While a brilliant man, Dr. Boykin unfortunately has difficulty conferring his knowledge to his students. His handwriting is very poor, and he doesn't take the time to explain what he's writing, which leads to mass confusion inside the classroom. For the first test, don't expect to get more than an 80. His second test is overly difficult; he curves.

Dr. Boykin is one of the smartest professors. However, his communication skills are very lacking, and he does not explain the class material very well. Basically, you are on your own for understanding the material, because his lectures can be pointless. Don't make math errors on the quizzes and tests, or he will take a lot of points off.

I was worried when I found out I had Dr. Boykin, but he's not as bad as the other interviews make him seem... assuming you are ready for the class. He WILL expect you to be prepared! He WILL give hard tests! He WILL expect you to learn. But you'll come out knowing the subject matter, and probably have a B to show for it.

He is a bad lecturer. Often times his handwriting is illegible. He writes for minutes in silence before waving his pointer around at what he's just written, talking like the complicated mess he just threw up on the board is the most obvious thing in the world. I love math, but he made the class thoroughly boring, frustrating, and confusing.

Know your stuff. If you have had any training - even in high school - in formal mathematics, you will do fine. And everyone who has gotten to college these days HAS had such training. Especially at THAT level of course. REMEMBER and USE what you learned, prior. You will do fine. Don't do it and you are unbelievably hosed.

I'm still not exactly sure what we were supposed to be doing in EE202. He teaches like you should already know the stuff and answers any questions you might have with that attitude. His design project kills your hopes of an A, but you're pretty much guaranteed a B. Do all you can to avoid him.

Extremely demanding but fair. He goes over the abstract material quickly at first, but goes through plenty of examples. He gives weekly quizzes that consist of one of the homework problems, so definitely do your homework. Do not come in expecting to get an A and I would not recommend taking him unless you actually want to learn the material.

This is a very difficult class and is supposed to prepare your math skills for grad school and if you pass it will. The lectures will go over everything you need to pass the class just don't screw up anything on the exam. Boykin is slightly more approachable at the grad level and can be approached for help with material or HW. Overall decent class.

The first half of the class is super easy undergrad math, with homework problems similar to class examples. The second half of the class is just getting your mind blown by a bunch of proofs and crazy math, and then looking for the answers to the homework on the internet. The grad student grading the homework grades easy. Tests are VERY HARD.

Read all previous reviews and listen to them! While he can be funny, he is a bit odd & way to intelligent for low level classes. Test are 4-5 questions worth 40-60 points a piece leaving 0 room for error, his homework is fair & the grading can be if you work super hard & fully understand I regret taking boykin & most likely will fail this class

Infuriating. The man is so incredibly condescending toward his students. He assumes you know your DE and Numerical Methods like the back of your hand. He'll actually question why you have a degree if you don't know them. MAEs don't learn Numerical Methods, and rarely use DE. Makes the tests from the most obscure topics you barely covered in the hw.

Dr. Boykin is an perfect example who is two-faced in terms of teaching & personality. Personally, I liked him as a lecturer and he gave very reasonable homework. On a personal level, he's a stiff with a condescending attitude. If you are to take him, develop some very thick skin.

Dr. Boykin suffers from being too intelligent. He is incapable of understanding that the super majority of his students are not 4.0 GPA human derivation machines. Very hard teacher to talk with if you are having problems. If you plan on doing well in this class you had better know differential equations and calculus backwards and forwards.

He is a very strict but fair instructor. He used lots of examples and tried to rephrase whenever it was possible and someone wasn't understanding. He was always open to help a student out with a problem but would never give the answer, instead he made you think about it in a different way so that you could answer it yourself. excellent teacher!

Its almost like he's an older version of Sheldon fro Big Bang Theory. He tries, but I think he can't imagine not understanding, and so can't explain things better. He likes problems like "implement X with this akward assortment of components"
