I had professor coogan as an undergrad and graduate student. He is awesome. The best history professor ever. I have recommended him to other students. There is much reading and the exams are mostly essays and students earn their grade. But he makes history come alive. He is an expert in his craft and I enjoyed every class with him.

Professor Coogan makes those who are really interested/majors work for the grade. For one, I'm glad. It's refreshing that a Professor actually cares about the History majors. Reading and writing are the cornerstones of a career so not only did I receive an excellent education in History I gained outstanding skills for real life.

To the person who thought that Professor Coogan had to "dumb down his high levels of teaching"...You are speaking nonsense. Coogan is an amazing professor who offers students a vast amount of important information and he is appreciated at Rutgers Newark..

A great teacher, and great classes. Unfourtunatley, I felt he always had to "dumb down" his high level of teaching to apply to the students at RN. He belongs at a better school where he will be more appreciated. If you think he is an idiot, it is probablly your problem, not his.

Personally, I learned a lot in his class. It's true: lots of reading, couple of papers, and three exams. His grading policy: if you show him you studied you'll get an A..otherwise... you'll end up w/ a B or C+. He lectures a lot but if you pay attention, they're not boring.

I had him at LaGuardia Community College in NY. He gives way too much work. It's like taking two classes with his one. He should just teach the honor students if that's his approach to teaching. Also, too many handouts and gives two to three midterms and finals. Super wack!

I'll admit that the class is boring, but it's a history class, it's supossed to be. He writes random words on the board and you have to be quick at writing notes to remember what he said about those words. They will be on the exams. Overall, he's a good professor and I suggest taking him.

Too much work. Too much papers. Tests are essays and too long. Disorganized. Crazy amount of reading. In the end just not worth it. He's like a machine and expects the students to be like that as well. I would not reccomend him.

Keep him Away from the copy machine, he's killing our natural rainforest!!Give extremely to much handouts, but you will learn (everything about Five Points and the Irish). Very helpful full of knowledge!
