. Most of the class was poetry. The first fiction story, I felt as if I was being judged bc I wrote what I like to read. He told me to stay away from action, fantasy, blood, and death. I felt as if I was supposed to be writing non fiction instead of fiction. Simply put: as someone who wants to be published in YA fiction, this class sucked.

I was looking forward to taking creative writing, and if I knew this class was going to consist exclusively of poetry, I wouldn't have taken it. I enjoy writing fiction, and if you do too, avoid this professor. I was led into thinking I would be able to write creatively. Instead, the class consists of writing poetry strictly on topics he assigns.

WONDERFUL PROFESSOR!! Makes the class so much fun!! This is not your average boring literature class; he makes reading poetry fun and makes you really think. Quizzes everyday on vocab and lots of extra credit! You will enjoy this class and there's no way you can fail!! TAKE HIM!!!

Outstanding writing professor - his poetry edits were incredible; improving the poem's readability while maintaining the essence of the poem. One caveat, a bit of a thick skin is needed because his criticisms and workshopping are blunt and he does not mince words but if you want to learn to write, this is a professor who will teach you.

Loved this Dude. I love his chop method. Before his class I thought I was a good writer. In one semester he managed to teach this chop method that made my work no matter how bad sound and appear so good.

I'm one of the former reviewers who gave a low rating. Mainly I was being an idiot. It is a class worth taking. Here's the bottom line: It is poet oriented class. Thick skin is a must. Liu is a professional writer and has a professional ego. He is an excellent teacher, but does not like kids taking his class as a cheap elective.

BEST PROF EVER! EVERYTHING is open book & open notebook even midterm and final...quiz almost every class but as long as you read its so easy!! he gives a lot of extra credit which is really easy stuff thanks to the extra credits i got an A in the class, dont be late and dont exceed your limit on 2 absences and youll get an A!! TAKE HIM!!

Prof Liu is really cool. Tons of extra credit to improve your grade, the class is like a book club where we discuss short stories/poems. I loved the class. Everything is open book and open notes. Midterm and Final and Homework and Quizzes = all the pts but its a really good class. He's pretty easygoing and will be open to anything we'd say.

He is hilarious! Quizzes every week -open book- tons of xtra credit, midterms and finals open book, open notes, everything except sharing with your neighbor. homework is pretty easy too. If I had to take another English class, I would definitely take it with him. he really makes you think too, what seems obvious has another meaning. Easy A.

he is hysterical. really cool guy. he knows his stuff but he also doesn't mind getting off topic. he knows when we don't like some of the poems we're reading and just skips it. he gives tons of extra credit and the quizzes he gives are easy and so are the exams. strongly recommend him. i'd take him again!
