I made this account solely to write this review. It's absolute worst class I've ever taken. Horrifically boring. Gives an absurd amount of reading then lectures the entire hour and half where he rambles nonsense the ENTIRE time in the most monotone voice. I try to pay attention but I physically can't. Do yourself a favor and NEVER take this class.

Not my favorite, but not my least favorite, either. Helpful when you ask, and incredibly knowledgeable.

Comment:
Prof. Lubin is great... if you're a religion major who only cares about Hinduism. He is a smart guy and will give feedback on papers, but his lectures could not be more boring and he tends to go on random tangents and often not leave time to cover the material. Do not expect an easy A at all.

Comment:
Lubin expects you to understand the readings which are insanely confusing and boring unless you love Hinduism and Buddhism. Do not take his classes if you are looking for an easy writing or religion class. He tends to ramble on for the whole class, often talking about things that are impossible to understand. Good guy but hard class.

Lubin is a really great guy. He is very knowledgeable and knows his stuff. Class can be a bit dry - he could use more discussion - but he keeps it interesting with just how much information to which you are exposed.

Lubin is extremely knowledgable in one field: Hinduism. I took his Law and Religion class, and although it was very interesting, it turned into more of a Law and Hinduism class. Easy grader, no tests, and the final paper was a research paper. Fun teacher, and fun discussions!

Professor Lubin is one of the smartest professors at W&L. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, but he cares about the students. Extremely nice and funny, getting to know him during office hours helps. Class is a bit dry, but he makes up for it in lecture content. Strongly recommend his classes!

A brilliant man. Highly reccomend. People whine about "not enough discussion," but they don't realize that they're NOT at school to chat, they're here to LEARN from somebody who KNOWS way more than they do. He's enthusiastic and witty. Andnoe doesn't spoon-feed you the material, you have to actually *gasp* READ and THINK to get A's. Awesome guy.

The lack of class discussion and the teaching style made this one of the most boring classes I've had at W&L. Essay assignments were much more vague and confusing than necessary. Readings and written assignments were boring/ not helpful. I would NOT take this class again, or recommend it or this professor to others.

Great professor if you are into Asian Religions. Asian religions by nature is a difficult subject to understand and the sheer amount of material to cover is astronomical. Knows his material extremely well. Most people that have negative experiences were taking a religion just for gen eds, this is not the course for that.

Heavy readings, but lectures emphasize what is important. He is very knowledgeable, and helped me a lot when I went to see him during office hours. Pulled books off the shelf to help me get started on my paper.

ugh this is the worst class. he is a hard grader and makes you do tons of reading that doesnt matter. dont do it. better yet, dont take this class. plus, he is very very reluctant to help you outside of class, i felt like i was annoying him by trying to meet about a paper like 2 weeks before it was due. he doesnt even hold office hours.

Most of the reading doesn't actually appear on the midterms, so I just look at his very detailed study guide and make sure i know it cold. I got a good grade on the first one and i stopped reading like a week into the course. Don't go near this course if you're not into religion.

I think he got weird when he went India... i came on here expecting all the ratings to be pretty bad but most of them seemed all right; notice they were before he left. Easily the worst professor I've had here. He is very knowledgable but can't get it across. 90 percent of the reading is not pertinent. I feel like I've wasted a term.
