I learned more about critical reading, careful analysis, and the need to support assertions with evidence in this class than in (almost) the whole of my southwestern education. A must take prof.

Not sure what is up with prior comment. "Flaunt"? The Prof has high expectations of us and spends lots of time working with us to meet them. Hard, fair, and brilliant. Old school in the best sense of the term. Take him!

One of the hardest most informative professors at Southwestern. He is very proud of the A's he gives out. O'Neill is like the stereotypical challenging professor, in that you only really have two tests a mid term and a final, but you will use every bit of your notes throughout the year on those exams/papers.

American Politics is a pretty popular class and everyone has an opinion about Tim. The course structure may seem a bit confusing, but if you follow the syllabus it will make sense in time. Make sure to capitalize on his extra credit opportunities, he's pretty generous. Also, if you do the reading the pop quizzes are reasonable.

He is an amazing professor. Really loves his subject, really gets students to understand and he is just really good at teaching. This class is hard and you definitely have to do the readings, you can not do well without doing the readings. The class is worth the effort though because you learn so much!

Very knowledgable professor. Classes are lecture-based, with maybe three discussion/debates throughout the semester. Tests are quite difficult, but taking careful notes and keeping up with readings should help.

Dr. O'Neill is a wonderful teacher. He is one of the most intellegent men I have ever met and his class is extremely enriching. You will learn a lot. However, be prepared to read and if you think you're a good writer, you're wrong. He will prepare you for the college writing style. Only criticism is it's his way or the highway, no opinions allowed.

Extremely knowledgable on everything American Politics, and ethical philosophy. Very Inteligent. If your answers do not conform to what answers he wants you are wrong. There is no negociations in the realm of Ethics or Justifacation. Tell him what he wants to know or else your grades will suffer.

Comment:
Dr. O'Neill is, let's be honest, one of the oldest professors still teaching at SU and is extremely set in his ways. If you don't have the exact answer he has already prefabricated in his head, you are wrong and you certainly won't get a good grade if it's on a test. If you aren't poli sci, steer clear because he is horrible.

An amazing teacher--takes time to work with students, offers insights into politics like no others. Not a prof for a student looking for a textbook summary. Best for someone seeking to come out of the class with a sharpened mind. Nice sense of humor.

dr oneill is a great teacher. he's knows all there is to know about politics. his class for the most part is interesting, but he drones on and on and on in lectures. he also made several comments to students that i thought were inappropriate.

Comment:
I had him for Political Ethics as an FYS, and it was the hardest class I have ever taken, but absolutely worth it because it taught me to write and generally function at the college level. I am not particularly intereasted in Politics or Government, but the class was very enjoyable. He was very knowlegable, adn encouraged discussion.
