Very difficult grader. It is hard to understand his feedback. So much reading and a lot of essays. Participation matters, so read and speak up. I did enjoy class discussion, as he was knowledgeable and funny.

Had Dr. Kerstetter for American West to 1900. He is very passionate about the subject and it makes the lectures very interesting. Be prepared to work for your grade. 4 novels with quizzes, and lots of papers over many different sources of history. Helps to develop your analytical thinking. I learned more in this class than any other this semester.

A great professor, one of the best I have had at TCU. There's a lot of reading involved, but the class is interesting and Kerstetter does his best to change things up.

Hard, but not impossible. The book quizzes stressed me out but he's such a personable professor that I can't say anything bad about him. He is very passionate about the West and it makes things enjoyable.

WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! He is the most arrogant teacher at TCU. You have 40 hrs of reading & writing EVERY week! If you are not a history major you will NOT do well. There is no point in participating in class. He makes you feel and look stupid if you voice your opinion. He does NOT care about students at all. DO NOT TAKE THIS KERSTETTER!

I really didn't like this guy at first. His lectures were kind of unclear and his style didn't fit my style of learning. After struggling on my first exam, I went in to talk to him. He was more than helpful and cleared up a lot of questions I had. I ended up meeting with him on a semi-regular basis and got better grades.

Don't take this class if you are not willing to work hard for your grade...this is not the easiest class, and if you don't do the reading, don't expect a good grade! He is a terrific teacher and more than willing to help you when you struggle, just go speak to him during office hours. Lot's of reading/writing!

He wasn't the best or the worst. I thought honestly he was kind of a lazy teacher. He just assigned a bunch of books and then we had to write about them. Many classes were watching pointless videos. He could be interesting sometimes in class, but more often he would just talk about how challenging he was. Stop talking and start teaching!

Dr. Kerstetter is demanding but fair. The entire grade in this course was from take-home essays and half-hour readings quizes. You do have to do all the reading, or you will get a really terrible grade. I enjoyed taking his class.

Nice guy, willing to help you out. I took histroy survey since 1877 and it was all essays, i'm not much of an essay writer but I still did fine. Overall a decent class and nice prof.

A moody teacher. Not a difficult teacher, but requires you to do exactly as he pleases in terms of writing style. Grades essays almost as if flipping a coin.

The guy is so self-indulgent it makes me sick. We learned absolutly nothing all semester. Half the time he has no idea what is going on. Way to much stuff was crammed in late in the semester. Always, always writing something and no matter how much you do, he always wants more. Don't ever expect to be right with the man, but only ever somewhat close

Were we suppposed to learn something in this class? Because I didn't. If I wanted to take a class on continually discussing the validity of sources, I would have done so. He's so self-important it's ridiculous.

I expected it to be more political history than cultural, he really like cultural history so I found myself rather bored. Attendance is a must, I hate essay based tests so that didn't help. If your looking for an EASY EASY B or A don't take him. He's one of thosem, my class is the only one that you all are all taking so there is a lot a lot of WORk

This class is a ton of work and requires a good effort. However, Todd is an awesome guy with such a passion for history that you cannot feel anything except interest. He is also funny and very helpful for students. Getting a B isn't too hard, an A is extremely hard.

Great class and prof. Be ready to work extremely hard, but go see him and get to know him, I think it helps when he's grading essays. Tests and quizzes all essay, you read a lot but you'll learn so much, I enjoyed going to class and was willing to do the work for this guy.
