Comment:

Dr. Steck is an amazing human being and truly cares about his students. His lectures are straight-forward and he uploads all his powerpoints. Attendance is not mandatory but he notices when you put in the work. SI sessions for spring 2018 were terrible. Exams are multiple choice and worded strange. Textbook helps!

I love all my bio classes but his class was brutal. He does not know how to teach.I am not doubting he does not know genetic but teaching it is a completely different story. On his test the wording of the questions are confusing.

He is a nice guy. I didn't think his review sessions were helpful. And his test questions were worded very strangely. I read the book before class and before exams as well as did practice problems and attended the review sessions.( still got a C) He clearly knows the material, he could just be confusing at times. No curve for Fall 2015

Very straight forward with what material will be on his exams. You have to read the sections in the book that are recommended, and you have to do the practice problems that are assigned. If you can read the sections 3-4 times and practice the problems you can ace his exams. Also go to class and take notes some ?s will come from that. I made a A.

I thought Dr. Steck was very nice and very fair with tests and grading. Tests were multiple choice, he assigned problems from the book, and he put a lot of the assigned problems on the tests. He curved the test grades a couple of times. Don't listen to everyone else. It's not hard to do well in this class as long as you put in a little effort.

This teacher is horrible. PLEASE DONOT TAKE HIM AS YOUR GENETICS PROFESSOR. He has no knowledge about anything. He wants students to know his level of stuff which is stupid. YOULL fail if he is ur teacher. TAKE LEAMY instead!!!

Take another professor. I had genetics several years ago and was required to take it again for my program to have a recent knowledge. When challenged, he always said the book was wrong (it wasn't). Nice enough guy, terrible tests. He really needs training on how make a good test. Find someone else.

Nice guy, bad instructor. You can tell he tries and knows the material. The guy can't write an exam to save his life!His questions are horrid, and his teaching methods as well. He's a bore,on what other instructors I've had have made fascinating. This guy nearly ruined genetics for me. Easy material and interesting, he makes it not and confusing.

Having him for Genetics, you can tell he actually knows the material. He just cannot write exam questions. If you have to curve your tests 10 points on average, something's wrong with you or your exams. Would never take another class with him.

Would not take classes with this instructor again! His test questions were too confusing and his lectures were very vague. At times he seemed unorganized and confused himself. He said this was the first time teaching Micro but you should have some idea of the subject matter before you teach the class. He contradicted the textbook!!

For goodness sakes, his Genetics class was difficult at best. Attend his study sessions (really helpful!) and read the book before coming to class and you should do fine. Final was optional this semester. Some questions were worded strangely but he was fair when students explained why they felt their answer was correct. Got an A in that class.

Not so good at explaining, but he is very helpful. Holds extra review sessions which really helps. Take good notes because some of the questions come straight from his notes and do problems he assigns in the book. There are chances that you will see exact same question on the test. 'A' isn't impossible in his class! Oh ya, most imp.! He curves!!!

This professor is excellent!! Very helpful outside of class, loves what he does, knows what he is talking about. I have had 3 classes with him and he never fails to dissapoint. By far my favorite professor at UNCC (even above Hudson)!

Prof. is the master of random thoughts and associations.There was not a coherent thought pattern to the lectures. He seems like a nice individual with enthusiasism for the subject is not a good teacher.I had a really difficult time following subject matter. Do not take this teacher...will be bad...

This class was one of the biggest let downs.Dr. Steck is a nice guy, but needs 2 stay in the lab.He is not clear at all in his lectures and goes off on these tangents during them.You are pretty much confused all of the time.It's only pure luck if you do well on his tests.stay away and save yourself.
