I took this class the first year they offered it with no idea that It was Chem 1&2 combined into one class. Extremely hard class but he gives you so many opportunities to raise your grade. I failed both midterms but still ended up getting a B- in the class. Very nice professor. Go to class to rack up on extra credit points, & do well on the final.

Gilbert is a really nice professor and is willing to help. His lectures aren't incredibly interesting, but he makes it pretty difficult to not do well so don't worry too much about getting a poor grade. Expect homework every week that is usually due on Sunday nights, and two midterms that are fairly basic in content. There is also a final.

I took gen chem 1 in NUin Australia, there were course differences that caused me to be a little behind but Gilbert did a great job of making sure I caught up & knew what was going on. His office hours are extremely helpful and he truly cares about students doing well. Taught some topics not in the book, but told you beforehand

Professor Gilbert is my favorite at Northeastern. He is very genuine and cares for each student. Go to extra help with him because he can help steer you in the right direction. He always accommodates students needs. I got an A in this class, but that was with hard work. He is very fair with grading.

Very good professor. He wrote the text book we used, which is needed to do well on the recitation quizzes. The tests are straightforward if you understand the concept. He is very helpful in office hours and is very accommodating. Great professor and learns everyone's name within a week (I was super impressed overall).

Gilbert is a great professor who knows his stuff. He grades very fairly, but at the same time, his exams are really challenging. I think the class averaged around C/C- for the midterms, which I guess is normal. He is much more conceptually-based than calculation-based, so if that's the way you learn, take his class.

Great professor! I learned so much in this class. It's clear that prof Gilbert wants you to learn. His emphasis is on the conceptual, and he spares you the laborious calculations. Yes, his midterms are tough, but it's because they make you think. If a large portion of the class gets a Q wrong, he'll give back partial or full credit. Worth the work!

Great guy. He really wants you to do well, and sets up his class to reward those who put in the effort. As a teacher, he's the best I've had here, he makes so much sense when he's explaining things. Tends to test on conceptual knowledge, and has a nice built in curve to help out struggling folks.

Tests are all multiple choice but are difficult. His lectures are interesting, he keeps things brief. He expects you to use the book to study for exam, which you should def. do. Gives extra points after you've completed 50. Quizzes in his recitations. Homework is OK, there's always 1 or 2 questions that pick your brain...use ur your textbook!

Very difficult class. The assignments are all online and due every week. They are relatively easy. He gives "jeopardy points", which are answers to multiple choice questions in class and used as bonus points. Midterms/final are VERY difficult.

Gilbert's midterms are really hard. The class average was usually a C, but as long as you do well on lecture quizzes (aka go to class) you'll probably still end up with an A.

T-Rex is a funny, chill professor. Lectures got a bit dry in the middle of the semester but if you go to class and rack up clicker points, you can get by with pretty bad grades on his midterms and final.

Gilbert's a great guy who loves to teach. Even in a large lecture he'll know everyone's name and be very friendly and engaging. His exams are hard and often not similar to his model questions. Clicker points will save you though as you can make up points by answering questions in class. Overall a very good professor and solid class.

Gilbert's midterms are hard, usually with a low 70's class average. However, he gives a tons of extra credit and you should pull off an A with a low 80's average or higher on tests. I highly recommend this class and his pre-exam reviews are very helpful.

Gilbert's class is hard, and takes a lot of work if you're not a natural at chem. He's INCREDIBLY helpful in his office hours; go to them whenever possible! Exams are difficult, but he offers "final jeopardy" points almost everyday that are just bonus points added to your final grade. Also, always attend his exam review sessions!
