Comment:

Tom was a genius. He expected a lot from his students and wouldn't let anyone cruise, no matter how smart they thought they were. Bookarts is a form of art that requires critical thinking skills and most college students do not seem to acquire these. Tom required that you had them.

Book Arts. Professor Trusky is funny and smart, but he is a terrible instructor. His instructions are very vague, and he will not clarify if you ask. Grades are not based on any clear guidelines; you can fulfill all requirements of an assignment but if he simply doesn't like your subject, he will give you a bad grade. Completely inflexible! Run!

BEFORE THE BOOK: This teacher is terribly vague in all of his assignments. He did not fully research all of his field trips prior to mandating that his students go on these field trips. He does not teach anything new; rather, he goes over the main points that you read in the text book. For that matter, it should have been independent study.

The class material was interesting, but this professor was vague and aggravating to no end. No clear instructions on assignments, cryptic communication, and the assignments seemed to be graded solely on his opinion of the work rather than any set standard. Not helpful, not good at communication. Not good.

He is funny, but his classes can and do extend over the three hour time limit. You spend half the class looking at previous students' work, which he expects you to use to get an idea of how you should cater your projects to his taste. You'll only get an A if your work is publishable, but you can get a B with moderate effort and a positive attitude.

Trusky was a kick. I took two classes from him. It's true: don't take him and expect an easy A. You have to work for it. But I learned a lot and was a far better writer because of his classes.

Trusky's fantastic. Not an easy A class, but definitely stimulating. Do not take this class if you're a hypersensitive whiny feminist touchy feely take-yourself-too-seriously person with no sense of humor... or if you are hard of hearing. He will push you, prod you, mock you, help you, and really and truly teach you. LOVE his classes.

Who grades poems? This is the only teacher I know of who GRADES poems! His quizzes are cryptic, his syllabus is silly, and he'll single handedly screw up your glowing GPA...all for a POETRY class!
