He is amazing! Lectures are very interesting and O'Malley is hilarious. No textbook, tests, or homework but, you do have to write a blog and have a final assignment. He makes you think about the subject and is very into theories. Highly recommend him! You won't regret it.

I highly recommend Professor O'Malley. He is extremely passionate about being a historian and works very hard to make sure that his students are engaged and also to make his class interesting. He's very nice and can be funny! Again, I definitely recommend taking him if you can.

Get ready for a lot of rhetorical questions. nice guy and not an awful professor but overall I took nothing form this class. I'm an A student and got a B grade, it requires a special kind of mind to take this class. The kind of mind that questions everything

Very interesting lectures. Engages the class, and makes you think. Lots of reading and writing, but it is an upper level history class. Make sure you write an excellent paper because he is a tough grader. Nice guy, kind of egocentric, but fun class.

O'Malley is one of my favorite teachers at Mason. His lectures are entertaining because he actually makes you think. The midterm and final are papers, and there are no exams. He is a good grader because he lets you formulate your own opinion, but make sure you use quotes from the readings to back up your argument. Overall great class.

Prof. O'Malley's teaching methods eliminates the mundane ways of textbook memorization. He is very professional when he speaks and measures a student's quality by their work efforts. Attendance is not mandatory, since he grades on journal entries that he allows students to do revisions. Take him if you desire something new and a chance for an A.

Prof O'Malley is a very funny, intelligent, & well-read teacher. However, he assigns a VERY heavy reading list and he provided little or no guidance for assigned papers. We pestered him about paper guidance - pulling teeth. Also, he provided the booklist early in the semester, but then changed it later on. I ended up buying books I didn't need.

WOW. This my first history class in the first semester of my college year and this guy made history seem so much more interesting and easier than what I had learned in high school. Make sure you do good on the webjournals, and take good NOTES on the TERMS he explains in class and work hard on the term paper. AWESOME PROFESSOR. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

He HATES economists. He asks for your critical opinion on the test. I am an econ major, so on the test I would write the economic reasons for events in the history. It would piss him off a little, but I would get a high grade. As long as you can provide your opinion and support it, you are good.

O'Malley is a truly wonderful professor. I loved his class! He is interesting and his lectures are chock full of all kinds of information you'll actually want to learn and remember. He puts alot of effort into his class, he's an expert with the web but he is a hard grader, not an easy "A". Great!

I HATE history, but loved this class. He makes you think instead of making you memorize. Do your best on the first paper. The TA grades hard! (so kind of hard to get an A) Know all the terms because that is what is on the final exam. Easy B.

Make sure to do good on the first paper, make sure he looks over it before you turn it in. Put reasonable amount of effort on web journals, & make sure to attend class because the final is solely dependent on his lecture. Once in class, take good notes of the terms he puts on the board.

Used a very different approach to teaching US history than your typical high school course. Do not take this course if you do not like thinking critically! His creative assignments gave me a new insight to US history, and no class on fridays was great.
