Said we'd probably all end up with A's as he's an easy grader. Really fun, but tough, class material, though the readings + lecture was SO DRY. It was a tough 3 hours to sit through each week. He's also clearly incredibly intelligent, and I think he's one of those professors who has trouble toning it down for students who are just learning.

Class was realllly boring! But it's the topic really and the people were dead, but he tried very much to keep it as interesting as he could. I got a bad grade in my first paper and he totally allowed me to drop the grade! Grading is easy too - 3 papers and that's it. He's just one of those men - smiley and likable. :)

I agree with what many here have said, he does not like ANYONE disagreeing with him. I thought Philosophy was supposed to be about questioning things? and that there was no right or wrong answer theoretically speaking. If you act like you agree with him on everything (giving up your own intelligence and opinions), then go for it...ha...

He wants class discussion, but doesn't listen to you when you speak.... very irritating class. In his attempts to branch out and think outside the box, he also gets too far off subject. Nice, approachable guy, but not a good class.

Brilliant man. Not only did I learn the theories of art, I learned how to read philosophy better. Tom thinks outside the classroom box and comes up with ways to involve the students in what they're learning.

disrespectful to students in class. likes to listen to himself talk, and talk, and talk, without really saying anything of value a lot of the time. horrifically boring and frustrating classes. makes it seem that he wants to be in his class even less than we did.

Tom is okay if you do exactly what he wants exactly when he wants it. He is a rule-follower to the extreme, and it makes me want to cry. Lighten up, stop being so stingy with department funds, and stop teaching that GODDAMNED Philosophy for Children class. Two thumbs down.

He's definitely a tad bit ornery and gruff, but he's a pretty cool guy if you talk to him a little more. I would say that he's genuine in that sense. He has good intentions, knows his stuff and is helpful and available to meet if you seek him out.
