He is the nicest man, but worst teacher i've ever had. He seems like he should be your grandfather or something. He is just so hard and takes things to a level inappropriate for an intro chem class. He is always willing to help though. His tests are tough as nails and the final is killer even if you can bring notes with you.

Hardest teacher I've ever had. Way too smart to be teacher an intro class, and expects too much from his students. Tests are really hard and its even harder to understand what he is talking about during class.

STAY AWAY! Don't take this class unless you absolutely have to. He is very smart, so much so that his lectures can be completely over your head even if you have an understanding of the concepts. Hardest tests I've ever taken in my life and rarely test your actual knowledge. Get the feeling that he's talking down to you when explaining material.

He knows what he's talking about, is passionate about chem and is always willing to help out. He grades fairly, but his tests are definitely challenging. If you didn't have a good high school chem background, try to avoid him. If you did, you should have no problem with him. Either way, you will need to work.

This professor is aweful...I have taken chem 12 and chem 21 since Arrington's class and made an A in both but could only manage a B- in this class!!! Definetly plays favorites and should no longer be teaching at Furman!!!

Do not take Arrington for Chm 11 unless you have good high school chem background. You will be extremely unhappy for the vast duration of the term. People that like chemistry tend to like Arrington, but if you know you don't like chemistry or if you are not SURE that you will like chemistry, don't take this course.

Worth taking if you're pre-med. Tests are difficult, but if you study and pay attention in class you'll be fine. Willing to work one-on-one going over tests or help you understand the subject. Enthusiastic about the subject. Sure, he makes me people drop pre-med, but they didn't need to be there anyway. Summary: hard work, but you will learn lots.

I think the problem is that he's so smart and knows so much Chem that he just doesn't understand how to teach people who are just being introduced to Chem for the first time. He's not evil or mean, but he definitely shouldn't be teaching an intro class--he just doesn't get it.

O law, where do I start... Skips simple, but important steps when explaining problems in lecture which makes it hard to follow; very approachable; #1 tip if you get stuck with him: BUY THE STUDY GUIDE AND USE IT! It's what got me through this class!

His class was hard, but if you get through it, you know you've learned alot. For chm majors his class is great because it gives a good background to succeed in the major. Others should avoid it unless they want a challenge. A's are possible even for those of us who only took a nonAP Chm class in HS.

ok whoever said the only people who don't like dr arrington are the one who don't work is WRONG.I studied SO hard for that class.I'm talking like 5 hours for a QUIZ not even a test, a QUIZ and I still failed.that's right, i didn't even luck out with a D.I was lucky to pull out a C in the class.

The worst experience I ever have.Well, I didn't take AP. I'm not familiar with Chemistry. That's why I take the very basic course. He really messed up my grades. It is his job to make every students understand, not just Chem experts genious of the 21st century.

Tough stuff... I took a lot of Chem in high school, and some stuff was still tricky. I definitely wouldn't suggest this class to anyone who isn't really comfortable with Chem already, and I'd be wary of recommending it to people who are... on the bright side, he's a nice guy and fairly cool.

His tests are impossible. Most people who got good grades on his tests are people who have already taken chemistry before. If you are that kind of person, you can sleep through the class. If not, then try to study your butt off and hope for C+ or B-. Though helpful, it doesn't get you anywhere.

Nice guy, but way too hard. His tests are impossible and they always have questions that are completely different from any practice problems. He is willing to help, but his explanations are still too complicated to understand.

He is a nice guy and helpful too. But his tests are really hard though quizzs are quite easy. Try to read ahead the textbook before the class. That will help you a lot.
