He is very understanding and is willing to delay assigned course materials such as quizzes and hw if he feels his students are not quite ready for it. He wants all of his students to succeed, and he never refrains from lending a hand to his students on understanding course material. He is a very kind professor. He gives out lots of extra credit

Good guy, tough grader, but if you put in effort for his class by understanding each problem he gives and review quizzes, webassignm, and solutions. You can do well. I studied an okay amount, and got a B+. Not too little but shouldve studied more.

Great teacher. Office hours are extremely helpful, cares about his students and I learned a ton in this class. Definitely recommend.

He tries to make sure everyone understands everything. If he sees that the whole class did poorly on a weekly quiz, he will then go over the material again, which is helpful. His tests and quizes are more concept-based as opposed to being heavy on computations. For example, one quiz was just setting up the correct integrals. He is pretty fair.

Here's the deal. if you're a math major, you'll love him. He knows what he's talking about and teaches the material well. he assigns many practice problems but only collects a few to be graded. But do them all anyways. So long as you study regularly and do the practice problems, you'll do fine on the test. If not a math major, stop whining.

You people are out of your minds! This man is NOT into helping us learn (it is menial work since he has such a "high position") He has no sympathy if you struggle in math.Thats your problem. He skips a lot of steps and to give help outside of class is like pulling teeth.

I really thought he was one of the best professors I've had. He takes the time to make sure you really understand the topics rather than rushing through material, and he encourages you to really think about what you learn during class rather than just simply presenting information. Take him if you can!

I feel the reason why some people give a low rating is because they have issues with teachers who expect them to put in some effort. Giaquinto is indeed demanding, but he is fair, and one of few lecturers that is really concerned with teaching his students something. If you are keen to "really" learn, then Giaquinto is your pick!

Avoid if possible! This felt like the longest class of my life, and i usually love math. what he teaches during class is easy but when you go to do the homework or weekly quizzes you find things you've never even heard of before. He's brilliant, but doesn't know how to communicate what he's trying to teach

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! He may be brilliant, but he's an awful professor. I usually get As in math but I'm holding on to my B- for dear life right now. I haven't taken an algebra class in 4 years so I'm a bit rusty and Dr. G is of NO help whatsoever! You have to teach yourself everything but the book sucks so you basically want to die after his tests.

He doesn't teach you much - but he doesn't have an accent so you can understand what he says - unlike a lot of other math professors. Expect to do most of the learning by teaching yourself though!

one of the hardest classes i have ever taken. he doesn't explain in depth since most people in the class already understand the concepts.he saved me at the end, so he is a fair grader and overall ok teacher especially for math132

Terrible teacher. Doesn't teach the class at all, expects you to learn on your own. Is very confusing. Super boring. Avoid at all cost, unless you are very smart and like learning on your own. He might be intelligent himself, but what good is that if you're the one thats supposed to be learning. Switch immediately. Don't second guess yourself

Overall, I would say that he's a very good teacher, and I've thoroughly enjoyed taking two classes with him. However, I do get the distinct impression that makes a better teacher for math majors who are taking him for high level courses (I took abstract and advanced abstract algebra with him).

I took Tony Giaquinto's ODE class at Upenn (which admittedly, was a while ago - something like 8 years now). His teaching was great and I particularly liked the fact that he encouraged us to pursue mathematical interests beyond what was taught in class.

This guy is so boring, there is a ton of online homework that he doesn't even teach in class, so you don't know how to do it, and he takes it for a grade. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you'll miss comprehensive questions if you don't come. He is the worst teacher for math I've ever had and I'm a math major.

If you want to die of boredom feel free to take this class. he makes math excrutiating to learn and constantly confuses himself as well as the whole class. hw due online weekly, tests and quizzes every other week.only things you will learn are the things you teach yourself by reading the book and studying outside of class. horrible teacher nice guy

Horrible teacher, you will not learn unless you're studying with fellow peers to reteach what he already taught in class. He gets confused easily and has sent my class e-mail regarding teaching mistakes in class. Homework is also online. There are tests/quizes every other week.

This was a very stressful class... but I did well in it because I did all the homework, studied, and we had a study group. I felt he tried to be a good teacher, but he seemed nervous in front of class. Looking back, I liked the class, but while I was in the class I was very stressed out. His class is a lot of work, and (hard) hw due every class.
