I'd take him again. His tests were almost always from lecture, almost never from the reading he "assigns." He also never threw in random stuff on tests/quizzes. I don't regret buying the online book though because it was great for looking at animated tutorials, which he highly suggests. Also he is just a sweet man and knows/loves his stuff.

Bio 124 was one of my favorite classes this semester and I'm so sad it's over. Professor Pires is a truly intelligent and kind-hearted person. He is dedicated to the material he teaches and makes lab fun. If you're interested in neuroscience or biology I highly recommend this class. If not, don't take it you will hate it.

Oh, you want a comment on Tony "Earthworm Jim" Pires, aka the legend of rector? Well then I'll give you one. The man's exactly what you expect from a prof. Enthusiastic, kind, extremely intelligent, approachable, helpful, and then add a pinch of crazy and BOOM, you've got tall Tony. 10/10 would recommend.

I really didn't like him. His lectures were boring and my interest in the subject faded quickly. Unclear assignments and a lot of wasted time in lab.

I ended up loving this class. I am NOT a science person and really struggled at first and considered dropping, but I am so glad I stayed in. It ended up being my fav class of the semester. It's interesting stuff & he is clearly passionate. Doesn't seem too approachable, but go to his office hours! He'll love it and he is really helpful and sweet.

Great professor with useful lectures. You need to do the reading in order to support what is in lecture - hard to do well on the test otherwise, in my opinion. He doesn't seem mean, just not always easily approachable. Knows his stuff and makes funny jokes in class. Don't take this class if you're looking for an easy lab req. Hard, but worth it.

Great prof, very interested in material. He's incredibly smart, and this may make him seem unapproachable, but he really is a nice, genuine teacher who wants his students to learn and succeed. Very clear guidelines for tests and papers, and very willing to help. If you are interested in the subject matter, take his courses.

I love this Professor! You need to work hard to do well, exams and weekly quizzes are lecture and reading based. Pires is understanding and willing to help you. He says really funny things in class and is pretty entertaining. You have to take his class for the neuroscience major, but if you're looking for an easy lab science choose something else.

he may seem aloof, but go to his office hours- he's the sweetest, most genuine guy. he really does care about his students, and he'll go out of his way to help you if you're sincere about making an effort. of course he has a special place in his heart for the bio geeks.
