Comment:

Dr. Cowan is a very laid back professor who loves what he does. His class is lots of reading and very discussion based, so you have to read to be able to know what is going on in class. Very personable guy and easy to talk to if you need something. Not exam heavy at all. But be prepared to have a quiz everyday on the reading.

Dr. Cowan is a wonderful person and teacher. You will make a good grade if you do the reading. Small quizzes on the reading everyday can hurt or help you out. Makes the text interesting, and he is an interesting person himself. Always there to help out with academic or personal issues.

I didn't feel like I learned very much, or that the class was useful. The paper requirements are not useful and his quiz questions are often unfair. He has major clarity issues, avoid if at all possible. Also strongly post-modernist, if you don't like that

I loved Dr. Cowan's class! The subject was interesting, he was funny and we had very good class discussions. I learned a lot in the class and I hope I get to take another one with him soon.

I took his Protest Lit. class- 1Y. There is a lot of group work and presentations. It isn't difficult, but you need to keep up with the readings. He is extremely helpful and willing to explain assignments thoroughly. I would definitely take his class again.

Expect vague assignments, boring reads, and monotonous discussions. It doesn't help that the class is at 8 in the morning either. The responses are pointless because you get the same grade every time with almost no feedback. He is hard to talk to one-on-one; its just awkward. To top it off, he piles a course paper and an exam in the last week.

I absolutely loved Cowan. The court cases are interesting, I loved my research on the U.S. Pledge case. The group work also helps because you can all keep each other in check with the paper. I didn't find him boring or monotone, but was very interesting and would help you any way he could.

TC is often vague and ambiguous. He is often unclear in his expectations when he assigns work. He is very smarmy and long winded, he clearly enjoys talking in his boring monotone voice. His exams are instruments of torture, testing more on the irrelevant than anything else.
