Comment:
I took all of Valerie's classes and ended up getting the Children's Lit Certificate before graduating. This was solely because she got me very excited about children's lit and I really enjoyed her as a teacher. I always found her approachable and helpful and an incredibly engaging teacher. Yeah, maybe she is sort of pretentious, but she's British!

She was incredibly smart and interesting. Intimidating to approach with questions or concerns, but her class was wonderful. I learned a lot without worrying about difficult coursework.

Looking back, I'm sorry I wasted my time on this course as it felt a little (self-consciously and deliberately) abstruse. There was no real spark of enthusiasm just a seeming interest in "being clever" for its own sake. I'm also deeply suspicious when I see an English academic mis-spelling. Solipcist???? Spelling wrong - but self description apt!

Oh dear, it all seemed rather pretentious. It is hard to fathom what Mrs Krips actually means and even harder to imagine her reading a children's book to a child!

I had her for my junior seminar and I really did not enjoy her. I found her hard to understand and rather boring. We did not engage the texts we read and she's a rough grader. She tries to be geniune but then blows you off for office hours. Take her at your own risk.

Exceptional woman. Very interesting and causes students to think about society and culture in context of both children and adults. Provides help whenever needed. Definitely recommend her as a professor.

Really intresting professor, but harsh grader. In my recitation on the first paper only one person got an A. She thinks her class is a W when Its a low level lit class. Unrealistic expectations. I enjoyed the class, went to lecture, recitation, and extra help, that wasnt displayed in my grades.

She taught my Children and Culture class and she is just a delightful woman. She lectured about the most interesting topics and then illustrated her points with movies in class (like Lolita or Beauty and the Beast) One of the most insteresting teachers at Pitt

One of the best teachers i have had, i'm a junior so that's saying something. Very serious about making sure you know the material and that the papers you write are quality.
