Amazing professor. Will entertain any physics question during lecture and office hours, as an example when he mentioned using anything conducting as a capacitor I asked even if I used something like a potato and he used it in a problem. He prioritizes actually being able to do and handle the material, instead of memorizing equations. Take him!

Comment:

Professor Vesa is a very knowledgeable person who is sometime overly patient with students, and soft-spoken at times. Although, he is very willing to review material to ensure everybody is on board. He grades VERY fairly. As for the class, the labs are pretty boring and easy; count on having a quiz every lab day.

He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate. He would take the time to answer complicated questions even if they weren't completely relevant. He's a PHd in astrophysics and anxious to teach. I rarely got lost during his lectures, and he would make sure the entire class was on the same page

vesa knows his stuff which is great. but he uses an online program for the HW which takes about 6 hours a week to do.super hard. the lecture is beyond boring. its an introductory to astronomy but he teaches as if we are actual scientists. there is a quiz or midterm every week. nothing from HW is ever on quiz or midterm

Comment:

Vesa is one of my favorite professors. He is truly a nice person who cares about his students and wants them to do well. Physics will never be an easy subject. The only way to do well in the class is to pay attention and do the hw assigned. Ask questions if you don't understand a concept. He always does his best to help you understand!

Vesa is a very nice guy and definitely knows his stuff. A few problems that i have with him is that he assigns homework online and so you have to get the correct answer to get any credit. Another problem is that the homework is extremely difficult and what he shows in class usually isn't very similar to the homework.

He's a good teacher who cares and knows a lot about his subject. He's a sweet, quiet little man who truly knows his subject inside and out. He goes on random tangents but he comes back and it's usually funny because he goes way beyond the intelligence level of the class. Easy class though and interesting.

Comment:

Vesa is a good teacher and an excellent resource regarding an understanding of physics. The difficulty of his class is that there is so much material to be learned and only 2.5 hours a week to learn it. I took down what I could in class then essentially learned the material myself. Not the fault of Vesa though. Need more hours for this class.

Not a bad guy, he got better as we went along. The quizzes and tests were fair but challenging. The labs were fun and helpful. The online hw is lame. The class can be boring but I had fun and would take him again. Lots of people dropped this class. Physics is harder than math.

Vesa is a nice person who would help anyone who would ask him. Grades fairly. His lectures though get's much more complicated as the course continues so be sure to read the chapter before he lectures on it to actually understand it. PHYC I is a abstract course to begin with so be prepared to solve problem after problem or YOU WILL FAIL THIS COURSE!

He is the nicest teacher and very smart, but probably not the best teacher. His class is somewhat boring, fell in asleep a few times. He is one of those people who are super smart but cannot explain what he knows very well to students. Not sure if it is his voice put people to sleep :)

I would reccomend taking this class at a different school. The entire class is struggling. Lots of homework and study time required to pass. The quizzes, labs, and homework are graded harshly, but don't really count for much in the end. The tests are hard and account for most of your grade.

This was the easiest class, all you had to do was show up once a week. Going into the final I knew that I could not even take the final and still pass with flying colors. He is kind of quiet and awkward but his class was great!

Nice guy. But gives very few examples. Mostly derives equations without enlightenment. TONS of homework, VERY HARSH grading. Curves grade, but it's based on combining 3 classes, 2 of which he doesn't teach - Ridiculous. Can't recommend.
