Tests are very tough, but Vic is an easy grader and gives a few points of partial credit for attempting to solve the problem. Unfortunately this is a class where you either get it or you don't, and it is very hard to do well unless you understand the theory behind probability. Vic covers a lot of material quickly, so read the textbook as you go.

He's a top researcher in his field for sure (800 citations to his name) and puts in a lot of thought about his lectures. His grading was homework and take-home tests, but his grading on the tests was very strict. He does welcome students to ask him questions though for tests, which I didn't do and paid a price for that (missed a B by ~1 question)

Vic was extremely helpful and friendly. The class was very simple if you study you will be fine. The tests were straightforward and there were no surprises. Take Calc II with Vic if you get the chance.

This man is too intelligent to be teaching this class. Which is a problem because he explains things as if we understand the same wealth of knowledge he has. Though concepts are difficult to understand he is extremely helpful when you ask questions. He is genuinely invested in helping his students which balances out the difficulty of the class.

Very nice guy and approachable, but I found his class and concepts difficult to understand. Spends too much during lecture doing proofs instead of examples related to homework. The midterms can be a bit tricky and tend to be unrelated to homework examples. The final was a common exam and it was brutal. To pull off a solid A would be very difficult.

Ok prof. sometimes goes a little too in depth with proof's of different concepts used in a beginning calculus class. Tests are hard so prepare yourself and you'll do fine.

He's awesome! He makes sure everyone understands the material before going on, and is so easy to approach with a question. His tests are also really fair; he tests on what he teaches. Great prof.!

I have taken two classes now with Vic, 5248 and 5251, and in both he has proven to be the best professor I have had at the University. He is extremely clear and responds well to questions. His office is always open. I just wish he taught more classes. If you like Vic, also try to take something from Calin Chindris.

I will just second what was said above. Vic is a very approachable professor (especially at the university level), he explains things clearly and thoroughly as if he were a student learning the material himself, and his lectures included lots of examples and active learning to hammer home the material. I highly recommend taking any class from Vic.
