Comment:
This professor is the worst. She is anal about showing up on time, and ridiculous about participation. Some people think her lectures are funny and interesting, but I think her lectures are boring and annoying. For having a PHD in Anthropology, she sure doesn't seem like a smart person. Would not recommend this class.

VBC is a good teacher but she expects a lot from her intro students with extremely hard tests. She's also stubborn and unwilling to be flexible with regards to her test questions. She's not above singling out students to miss points of tests because they missed 10 minutes of one class.

while class discussion can be interesting, the overall themes were too repetitive and not very interesting. day to day did not vary much, and quickly became boring. also, not very understanding and definitely not accommodating

Classes were a good mixture of lecture and discussion. She's tough and the class wasn't easy, but she makes things interesting and has a great sense of humor. Extremely helpful during office hours. Tests are somewhat confusing.

Very interesting lectures and discussions, very good at clarifying points and providing practical examples. Her tests, however, are not great: the questions are sometimes unclear about what is being asked and it is never clear prior to the test what the focus of the questions will be.

Extremely hard. Gave blood, sweat, and tears (literally) with her class. Was helpful to the point that she met with me outside of class but completely contradicted herself when explaining to me what she expected me to know for the exams and what the questions actually asked. terrible experience.

The VBC makes Intro to Anthro a very difficult class. Lectures run long and usually ramble to the point that not all of the material is covered. Also, the VBC is an extremely tough, sort of arbitrary grader. I put in about the same amount of effort into the four tests and four labs, and got grades ranging from D to A. Obsessed with baboons too.

There was a very heavy reading load, with quite dense material and only 2 exams of all of it. Her expectations are unreasonably high and she is uninspiring.

the worst prof i have ever had. everything is memorization and somehow goes back to her speciality -- monkeys. if you don't know the latin names for various missing links and which skull drawing they correspond to, don't take any of her courses because they seem to be the primary factor to which your grade will be based upon... regardless of topic.

one of the most interesting classes i've ever taken. but beware! VBC's reputation for being a tough grader is 100% true. labs take more time than you'd ever imagine possible...linguistics was my personal favorite part of the course.

She grades really tough on tests -basically you have to memorize everything she says in class, but you learn a ton. As long as you take good notes and put in the time to study, you will do fine on the tests. She's very approachable and happy to help.

fun lectures, really tough grader. tests often have unexpected questions. readings mix fun/boring. helpful outside of class. picks favorites. loves anthro/primates. lowers grade if absent no exceptions. class always runs long. nice, but don't expect a good grade. will tell you flat out you're wrong

Grades appreared to be based only on whether or not she likes you as a person. Boring lecturer. Sent out academic advising notices to the majority of the class even though everyone was passing. I recomend avoiding.

Tough cookie, this lady. I actually liked the lectures because she was pretty good with examples. But she's anal as all hell. She'll get pissed if you're late, but will let you out of class 5 minutes after it ends everyday. Hard ass grader. Loves monkeys.

i took several courses with her. it was an adjustment to figure out what she wanted from me as far as grading, but she pushed me and it worked out. she's also very willing to work with students on things, all of which adds up to a great educational exp.
