Hughes super nice, and he's always willing to help, but he's extremely unclear in his lectures. In less than a full semester I alone have corrected him at least 10 times. As long as you're an independent worker and don't mind asking questions you'll be fine, but don't rely on him or his lectures to help very much. Don't bother with the textbook.

Prof. Hughes is a living saint. Before I took him I never thought I would ever find a math teacher/prof with the patience and understanding needed to get through to a math blockhead such as myself. It's true that he does tend to confuse himself at times, but asking him to double-check his own work is always enough to get him back on track.

I think he knows what he is doing, but he is not very good at teaching it to other people. It is because of this that I had a very hard time in his class. If I could go back I would have tried harder to avoid taking him. I did not learn anything, and felt like it was a total waste of my time.

I am so bad in math but I passed just because of Hughes. I just came to class everyday and tried to get help. I didnt pass 1 single test in 101 a or b and passed both courses. Probably one of the most approachable professors ive ever had at Shepherd

I'm in his Math101a class now. I'm not a fan of math, it's not my forte. Mr. Hughes is a very nice man and seems very experienced with mathematical theory but I don't get anything out of class time. I am getting through this class by attending tutoring for at least an hour every week so that the tutor can go through each equation with me.

Wow. What a great guy. He helps me with all my math work, even the classes he isn't teaching me. Helps me with alegbra, trig, calc, physics, anything math related- he is the guy

If you know how to do basic algebra this is the easiest class ever. Professor Hughes is probably the best math teacher at Shepherd besides Dr. Nelles. He will go out of his way to help you with anything you need. Just don't text or fall asleep during his class and this class will be your easiest one for sure. Highly Recommend.

This man has a heart of gold. I am what you would call "severely retarded" in math. He met with me 3x a week and tutored me. He truly cares about his students. If you show him you are willing to work hard and put in the effort you will do fine.

Dr. Hugs! (Hughes) is awesome. He will literally go out of his way to help you with tests or questions. If you make an effort to show up to class he is more than willing to help you even during the test! Can't finish a test? Show up in the Academic Support center to finish it up and get personal attention and help from him.

He is a very easy teacher especially if you are already good at algebraic math. However, he gets very confused in his teachings and makes tons of mistakes in his sample problems. There are no grades besides the tests and he gives no homework. He gives problems you can do but they are not mandatory. don't fall asleep...he hates that :)

He is a good teacher he really never gives homework he give you problems that you can go over but he doesn't grade anything but the tests he is also really good about giving everyone all the time that they need on the tests his class was boring but he almost never takes up the whole class time. I would recomend him to everyone.

He's a very nice man, but he gets confused a lot and makes many mistakes while teaching. His monotone voice makes the class boring and hard to stay awake in his class. Overall,the class isn't hard, you'll have to teach yourself the material.

I've had Hughs twice and am taking him for two classes this semester. He is rather confused at times, but if you put in the time he is the most helpful. come to class, do the work and plan on spending time outside of class to solidify your own understanding of what is taught and you will do fine.

he is pretty confusing, but it's clear to me he knows math - he's just not a great speaker. it's hard for me to fault a guy who's so eager to help and makes himself so readily available if you need to make up work. attendance counts a lot though, and i wish i had known that.
