I took Prof Vincent Basseville classes around 1988 - his classes were amazing, and I took away a love for the language - to continue my learning long after I left university. Today, I enjoy reading and writing French poetry, listening to French songs. Watching old French movies. And have introduced the language to my daughters and husband.

Comment:

He mainly focuses on getting the students more comfortable with the language (esp. the oral component). Does not go over grammar structure in depth. Extremely personable. However, if you have a problem with less organized course structure, don't take his class! I loved this prof!!

AWFUL prof. Do NOT take his class. Didn't learn anything, received A-'s in all my other classes, but a B- in his. Worked very hard, but ended up losing my scholarship. Needs to work on personal hygiene. Will not let you take notes. AVOID!!!!

His style doesn't really allow for you to learn much.. its just repetition, unless you are willing to parrot his phrases back to him get a different prof. He was also really disrespectful to some students, he is helpful if you ask him for extra practice before class but this won't improve your mark.. not an easy elective!!

Good prof, very good at what he does. This course is meant to give you a feel for the language not to sit you down and memorize verbs. You have to WANT to learn it. Before his class I had never spoken French to anyone and now I'm thinking about a Minor in French because I love the language so much.

Very nice man I give him that. However, do not expect to come out of that class knowing a word of French. So don't blow the $800 on the class. Also treats you like you were in grade school. Missing more then 1 class means your not getting an "A"

Just kept screaming French phrases at students who didn't understand a single word until they could parrot it back perfectly (still without understanding). Tried to teach "la musique de la langue" without the meaning. VERY outmoded teaching styl
