Professor Shende is a nice guy, very energetic and a great lecturer; however, my experience with him was discouraging as I felt that he was more interested in the class doing assignments than in our being able to apply class concepts in inventive ways. Uninterested in personal style or in his students as artists. Inflexible and tough to reach.

Professor Shende is a fantastic professor. His History of Rock Music class has been my favorite course at Bowdoin and he always makes class interesting. Definitely worth taking, even if not a music major.

I'm sure he knows a lot about composition, however, he teaches 100% from the text book. Therefore, I skipped a lot of class because going was quite frankly a waste of my time. He has nothing new to offer and was very condescending/not open to any thoughts that were not explicitly stated in the text book. Luckily, the text book did a really good job

He maybe in a band, but that doesn't make him even close to being a good or a fair professor. He is NEVER prepared to class. He NEVER gives back your work on time (even when he promises). He is rude. He is not at all inspirational. I have no respect for this guy as a professor because he has no respect for his students. Period.

I'd reccomend him, when I did poorly on a homework assignment, HE took the initative to set up an appointment with me to review the things I didn't get. His lectures aren't a thrill but they arn't boring either, more than you can get with any other music professor.

Vin is a great guy, hip and fun. He is often unprepared for class though, and expects theory to come as easily to all his students as it does to him. I would neither recommend nor diss him. He makes you work hard.

Young, knowledgeable, energetic. Not the most user-friendly prof--can be stand-offish, even rude, to students in class. Never responds to emails. But, he is fair and very interesting. Suck it up and take a class from him.

I don't know about anyone else but I took the class to learn some cool things about Rock. I don't want to think, I have three other classes for that. It was a sub-100 level course not meant to get at critical thinking skills. Did a great job!

It's tough to separate the facts and the myths that fill r+r history. although he based most of his lectures etc. on the texts, the material was so interesting it made the class really cool. i'd like to see someone else try to teach the history of r+r

this guy has never had a thought that hasnt come out of a text book. bowdoin is built upon using critical thinking skills. shende has never once asked me to think in his class. keep you distance from his class. he is a nice guy at least.
