Good at explaining concepts! Exams are tricky and he is a tough-grader. One thing I absolutely didn't like about him was he is ignorant to e-mails and is not at all approachable. I took two courses under him, but this thing never changed.

his explanation is excellent. comparing with many professors in IS department in PITT, he is one of the best. i have seen many who just read the slides.

He is not helpful, give tough HW, explain easy things and test the hardest things. Projects are not related to anything in class. lab class is not helpful at all. Sooo bad, lost my money

Assigned huge homework assignments and then didn't go over them, or return half of them.Final project was to create a database which he spent one month of the class talking about. Also, nothing but a final exam. Half the class didn't show up all semester and they probably learned as much as I did from him showing up every day.

I don't know why he got negative reviews - he is very capable in his field. It certainly helps to have some previous knowledge of programming languages before this class but it isn't necessary. We didn't need the book at all.

Class starts off slowly covering the practical uses of DBMS's, then quickly delves into incredibly complex theory without warning. Almost all of the HW is on theory and NOT SQL OR DB SOFTWARE!!! Most of this theory requires an understanding of discrete mathematics and formal logic, something that is not taught by the IS department. Come prepared...

I didn't use the text once so don't buy it unless he starts to incorporate it in the course. I think he goes into too much theory, but he is easy to approach and will glady help you out if you ask for it.

Grad level database class. Good teacher, intelligent individual, EXTREMELY difficult course. That said, grading and evaluation is pretty generous.

Vladi certainly knows his material to the point of teaching undergrads the theory of the database code like we're trying to find a way to split the atom. The homeworks are based off of lectures with little examples to work with in regards. We're supposed to be in database management... it should be taught as such, and it is not.

Nice guy, keeps class running smothly by stopping for a few minutes to talk about crazy things totally off topic. But this isn't enough to save from the fact the class is insanely hard. The few lab sessions are jokes and no help (only half the students even had a PC!) and he teaches theory, yet expects SQL code. Also worst book I've ever seen.

This course is impossible. Vlad is very knowledgeable, but there is just so much material. It's a friggin database course yet it's taught like it's quantum mechanics-- enough theory to make you want to hang yourself. Vlad is nice and wants you to understand the stuff, but his accent and foreboding attitude get in the way a lot.

Very knowledgeable about subject manner. The main problem is the lack of interaction with the class. Doesn't really offer a complete class. You end up having having all major class work due at the end of the term which really makes things tough.

Worst teacher EVER. It's impossible to understand his accent, and the book is impossible to understand. Plus, he uses the notes from the publisher so there's really no help for the class. the project is impossible to do.

The class is database management. He made us do a project in SQL language, yet he never taught us the SQL needed to create, just to search. Plus i cant understand a god damn word he said, cuz of his accent
