Anal. of Oral Lang - Great Prof., obviously loves the topic and is always up for discussion and different thoughts(in and outside of class). Accepts if you have a different view and can back it up. Group presentation- easy, as long as everyone said something she was happy. Could get off topic and slides were sometimes too long, confusing handouts.

Trudy is a great professor. Very clear about what she wants and will always take the time to explain if you ask. There are plenty of small assignments that make for easy marks if you put in even a little effort. The main challenges are the midterm and final - but again, she tells you everything you need to study. An excellent professor.

Class itself was very boring. There are lots of small assignments that are easy to get 100% on if you put in a decent effort. Tests and exams are VERY clearly laid out in the review. If you learn everything on the review, you will do well. She's also really accommodating if you need a couple of extra days for an assignment.

Dr. O'Brien is a wonderful professor. Yes, she does have lots of slides, but they're posted on WebCT. She always want to help and gives you plenty of chances. She works hard to get to know every student personally and really gets the class involved.I recommend her for any Intro to Applied Linguistics student.

Little actual theory, unfortunately. Most of the classes consisted of student oral presentations, followed by either admin, working on group projects, or maybe a couple of slides. Too much work. I would have preferred more lectures and class discussions. On the plus side, Trudy herself is great, and the class was fun when it was theory.

The slides have too much material on them so it makes it hard to study. However, since there are so many little assignments, do them all and the points add up. Follow the study guide for the exam. Trudy is super nice!

Dr. Trudy O'Brien is an amazing professor and scholar. To those who criticize her for her 'unnecessarily complicated language' and whatnot, perhaps you should consider the role of your own limited capacity for language in your interpretations and judgements. ;)

Trudy's a sweetheart! Maybe it's just that I really like this topic, but I loved this class. Yes, she does zip through her slides, but they're all posted on WebCT. It's super easy to do well in this course. She's very accommodating, and there's lots of little assignments to boost your grade. And she knows her stuff, absolutely.

Though she seems like a very intelligent and sweet lady, I found the class incredibly dull and unecessarily complicated for what should have been pretty straight forward concepts. Also, it's great that she accepts late assignemnts, but she takes no marks off of people who are handing in assignments months later, so why make a due date at all?

Nice person but horrible teacher. She uses 60-80 lecture slides per class, reads directly off them, moves quickly. Assignments often having nothing to do with lectures. For someone with a PHD in language she certainly can't use it effectively- uses complex, unnecessary language for simple concepts.

She may have been disorganized in her lectures but she is extremely understanding and helpful. If you ever have a problem with due dates or with material she is more than willing to accommodate or go over it with you. Very easy to do well in her courses.

Full pages of overhead notes are placed on the projector for about 30 seconds and she does not discuss them. Unless you have an extremely quick hand, they're useless. She does post them after, but usually tests on things that she says in the time that you're frantically trying to copy notes on the overhead. Guest lecturers are intersting though =)

Absolutely horrible teacher. Doesn't follow the notes in order, and doesn't stop for questions. Exams are random information that she may or may not have mentioned-- who knows?! Final exam is nothing new - takes questions from every other test, which is taken up. Possible to do well, but don't bother if you have the choice.
