Comment:
Professor Montag is very knowledgeable. He introduced many great philosophers and philosophical ideas to the class and utilized many novels to explain the context of social issues. However, his grading falls mainly on writing. The quality of your writing is more important than whether or not you actually under the concepts he discusses in class.

Incredibly pretentious and self-absorbed. He will forget about meetings and then make you wait until he's ready, all while not caring about whether or not you have another class to get to (He once told me "Oh that doesn't matter, you can be late.") Slow grader with minimal comments that do not explain the grade at times. Would NOT take again. Ever.

Montag is amazing. He's an eccentric genius who knows everything about English literature and language. He has a hysterical sense of humor, and will keep you constantly entertained with his mannerisms and anecdotes. He also really cares about his students, and loves to chat during office hours. Take any Montag class.

The people who complain of Montag "controlling their mind" probably are annoyed because they do not have much to control. He is absolutely brilliant and engaging, and I love his classes. I absolutely would eccomend this professor to anyone with a sense of humor and social consciousness.

Quite possibly the smartest person I've ever met. Knows sooo much about a crazy number of topics. He has tons of published essays on all types of lit stuff and can quote NWA lyrics for god sake. Tough grader, probably because he writes better in his sleep

Basically, if you agree with his political views, you get an A; if you don't he will hound you and try to control your thinking. I learned little about the subject but lots about being pressured and felt like my opinions were not listened to.

Warren Montag's brillant lectures and widely read and respected work make him the best professor at Occidental, the only problem he has is the inability of Occidental students to understand the superb quality of his teaching due to their own mediocrity.

Montag's cool. I had him for Lit Crit and loved it. I didn't get it, but he helped me. I never did the reading until he went over it, and it's great cuz he tested us only on what he discussed in class. if you take notes, you'll pass.
