very nice and sweet man, but not exactly the best of teachers. i didn't really learn anything in his class but very intelligent and understanding. he's kind of like that old guy you wish was a member of your family to impart wisdom on you during thanksgiving dinner.

Well, I'm voluntarily taking him again next semester... does that say anything about how great he is? It is true that his lectures tend to run on the long side, but it is not true that he only talks about himself. He is a wealth of information about history and a genuine support to his students. I highly recommend him.

Be prepared to learn more from this professor's classes than you have in any other class in undergrad. Any time spent listening to this dude is worth well more than your SUNY tuition. TeBrake is also very supportive and always willing to reward hard work. His classes are exciting and interactive. Come prepared to discuss history in length!

I just want to thank Dr. Hechtman. Before taking his class I was really wondering where my life was going. I don't mean in school, but in life. I had wondered if life was even worth it, he really saved me, saved my life. I thank God for Dr. Hechtman. I hope someday I can repay him for what he's given me, or at least just be able to tell him.

This is a tough class but very worthwhile. Not recommended if you don't appreciate history, don't take this to fill a core. Someone said "snore"? I fall asleep in every class and I didn't fall asleep in his!

Insane amount of work, mostly ERes that's hard to catch up on. Terribly easy grader. He spent a good half the semester on how to farm Europe. I now know how to dig a good ditch in the Netherlands. I do not know how to pass the final.
