Definitely a "no mercy" grader. Either a 95 or a 50, no questions asked. His lessons are clear and to the point. He doesnt leave anything out, and prepares you for the programs you will need to write. Im sure he had good intentions, but his grading was just savage.

You have to earn his respect, but once you do, you'll find that Professor Bastian is a surprisingly helpful person. Therefore, try to start off on the right foot and you'll save yourself a lot of hardship. His style of teaching has become less rigid recently. His tests and assignments are manageable. Really, he's not that bad.

He still has his own style, which must become your style. He stopped handing back our assignments midway through the course. His tests are clearer now and have less "as we did it on the board" questions and more "trace/state the algorithm" questions. If you've come this far, you can survive him.

Really knows what he's teaching. Comes off as a little odd at first, but hes really a nice guy whos devoted to his job. You GOTTA do things his way or he'll slam you on the assignments. I really enjoyed CS175 and am looking forward to CS176.
