Dr. Baumgarth is one of the smartest professors I've ever encountered and his class has a lot of interesting perspectives. His lectures are sometimes hard to follow, take good notes and don't be afraid to ask him questions in his office hours. Definitely a great pick if you are new to political science, just read the texts and try to participate.

William's class could definitely use a powerpoint or some form of visual stimulation to spice up his lectures because he basically walks into the room to talk for 2 hours lol. He is a really smart guy in political theory though-- do the readings, talk to him after class, and show up to a couple office hours and you'll be good.

an extremely intelligent man, obviously knows what hes talking about. however the classes are so lecture-heavy and dependent on your understanding of the readings. the work is slightly much but manageable, my real problem comes from the fact that during the lectures if no one answers his questions quickly enough he makes some sort of offhand com

This man is a genius. Traditional lecturer, but really knows the material. You will learn a lot about political philosophy. Often open book essay exams, very fair. Definitely can get an A as long as you pay attention in class and take notes on what he says is important from the readings in class Strong promoter of free discussion.

Many of the students in my class did not like him but I believe they are wrong. Professor Baumgarth is an awesome poli sci professor who makes kids think about what politics is in a unique fashion. He is such a great professor and you will learn a lot from his classes!

Professor Baumgarth is highly intelligent and respected within his field. He's old-fashioned & doesn't use powerpoint slides or the whiteboard, so pay attention! This might be hard since he rambles on for the duration of class. You don't need to do the readings to get through the class, but doing them definitely prepares you for his assignments.

I had trouble staying awake in this class even though the lectures were interesting. it got a little monotonous because he speaks the whole time and does nothing else. I was surprised by my grade; even though I felt lost and confused I stil got an A.

I really loved my class with Baumgarth. It was 100% lecture based with no powerpoint so it requires attention, but if you can repeat what he says on tests you'll have no problem. Focused mostly on more philosophical politics rather than modern specifics.

Prof. Baumgarth is a very likable man. He is also a very smart man. As a teacher, he is very dry and holds long lectures in which he stands in front of the room and just talks for 70 min, no slides and no board used. He assigns a midterm paper and a final. His class is a lot of reading, Overall a great man and an ok teacher.

The professor is very knowledgeable. However, the lectures can be hard to follow because there are no visuals. The grades are based on only a midterm, a course paper, and a final. It is important to pay attention to the lecture and do the readings.

Not an easy class. Prof. Baumgarth is super intelligent and really knows his stuff. Lectures a bit hard to follow sometimes. You have to put in the work, read and pay attention to do well. Have to draw conclusions from the lectures. Really nice guy overall, wish he used more technology in the classroom (powerpoint, etc). 8/10 would recommend.

An outstanding professor. Professor Baumgarth teaches the material, not to a test. He will assign readings and discuss them in depth in class. You don't have to be a Rhodes Scholar, just read the material and if you have questions the all better. If you want an insightful, thought-provoking, and interesting political science course, pick him.

Professor Baumgarth is extremely knowledgeable and really knows the material. He never looks at notes, just talks and discusses from the start of class to the end. There's only a midterm, a final, and one 5 pg paper in the class. He grades really easy as long as he can see you've read the material and are trying. He knows every student's name.

What a great guy and very smart too! If you pay attention to what he says you don't have to do the reading. All test questions come from things he points out in lecture. Go to office hours for an extra bonus! Can't recomend him highly enough!

No, no, no. Baumgarth should not even be a teacher. He is a smart guy, very funny, but he lacks any skills that could posssibly make him a good teacher-- or a teacher at all. Absolutely boring, just talks and talks and talks without providing any foundation for the outrageously vague and difficult test questions he makes.Teach yourself to get an A.

I can't recommend Baumgarth highly enough. Great lecturer, workload is totally reasonable, and he has a VAST knowledge of political philosophy. Listening to him talk about Locke, Machiavelli, Mill, etc., is actually enjoyable. He's also a really nice guy with a great sense of humor. I wish every college professor was like him.
