EVIL. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. It is unclear HOW he grades. He grades subjectively. Who cares if the lectures can be interesting. The point is if you're a good student, work hard, AND ask for help, you should be able to do well in class. Not the case with this guy. And I'm not a lazy student who's angry and in denial, my GPA was 3.8 before this class.

I HATED galush. I took him my freshman year and I'm a senior now and I can still say he's the worst professor I've had. I was a history major, and his grading tactics, or lack thereof, scared the hell out of me. I edited my boyfriends papers (we were in the same class)..and he received better marks than I did. Borderline mysogynist. DON"T TAKE HIM

If you're wondering about my credibility, I really don't b*tch about professors (honestly) and I have a 3.7 GPA. If you like history, OF COURSE you won't mind the lectures. But the whole point is to get the grade you worked for, and that's NOT what happens with him. NO to 300 level classes. You'll save yourself from a semester of annoyance.

I found this class very interesting. He is a good, clear lecturer. He is also very willing to meet to discuss papers. He treats 90% like most professors treat 98%'s, so beware, you probably won't get an A. But, I would definitely recommend this American History course.

Doesn't seem hard because you're doing what's required of you--then you realize that NOTHING can help you. NEVER trust a professor who doesn't tell you EXACTLY how he plans to grade. Papers and essay tests don't give him the right to be completely subjective. If you have to take him --do the Pass/Fail option--and you honestly have my empathy.

Please do not be fooled by the nice comments on this list.2 multiple choice quizzes, 2 papers, and a book review with an essay midterm and final. WILL NOT be able to please this man---he is not a fair grader and puts things on the multiple choice quizzes that he did not go over in class..didn't tell us what was on the mid term and final--RUN!

This is the worst history class I have ever taken. He doesn't even point out exactly what he finds wrong with your essays, and even mutters and laughs to himself, as if the entire class will join him in laughing. Do not take, because he treats this class as a writing intensive class when it is regular.

grading seemed completely unfair. no matter how hard i tried, i could not get higher than a b+ on anything. i got an 84 on one paper, went to see him at office hours to find out how i could do better on the next one, when i got the next one back, i had an 87, but his comments were much harsher. no consistency in grading, don't take this class.

I never had him for 100 or 200 level classes, but definitely DON'T take him for 300 level courses. He penalized me for not knowing things that he didn't even teach! I'm not the type to bash on teachers, and I even LOVE learning about history, but this man and his class were the extreme worst experiences I have had here in Loyola.

Interesting lectures and a very personable man. Don't bother reading the text book b/c the tests and quizes are strictly based on class notes. don't know how you get an A but a B/B+ are fairly easy to come by just show up to class and turn in your work

Don't let his dopey santa claus routine fool you. You think--"Harmless man with cheesy jokes". Truth is, you can study and prepare all you like, and you will still end up with the same grade as the lazy person who barely shows up to class. And if you have a family emergency or you are sick and can not turn in work on time--you're screwed.Run away!

U never know what u did wrong on his papers b/c he simply slaps a random grade on it & doesn't explain why. When I asked for help, he was genuinely confused when I am usually an A student and Im getting Cs on his papers and midterm. Well-prepared class & interesting, but his grading is discouraging
