I feel like there's a good balance of discussion and lecture. Dr. H's extensive background and cultural knowledge helps students better understand the novels (and contributes to Miami's liberal arts education as a whole). Those who were bored clearly weren't participating in the class dialogue.

Comment:

Dr. Hardesty was probably the best professor I had the entire year. He expects his students to be knowledgeable on the subject, and while he often lectures on his opinions, he readily accepts students' thoughts and discussion is a huge part of class. You do read a book a week, but all are about 200 pgs and writing is minimal.

What a jick. You have to read a book every week and he still acts like he's in the Navy. He totally hates Miami students and frequently makes rude, derogatory comments about the students in his classes being lazy, which is insulting to those that actually try.

Lots of hard reading that could be pretty dry at times - but the professor made Victorian Lit. come alive. Charming, cerebral, and the most passionate teacher I've had ever had the luck to meet, I grieve that he's no longer teaching. He is the sole reason that I will continue reading the material, probably long after college.

This is my favorite college class so far! Hardesty taught me so much and was so helpful. He made the class interesting and encouraged discussion. I loved the books we read. However, he's a tough grader.

Dr. Hardesty is a good teacher. It is really a discussion class. Do the readings and you will be fine.I didnt do all of them and was still able to pick up in the coversation. Some books are a bit boring but they vary semester to semester. Watch your grammar. Overall fun class and a good teacher.

Hardesty is a great professor. He can come off condescending-but he really knows his field. Expects a lot of discussion and a good amount of reading. If you like literature & don't mind putting in effort you'll love him. Sweetest guy-don't get him started on Conrad or fountain pens, though.

I absolutely adored him and loved the material that we covered in class. One of a very few professors I've had at Miami that respected what I had to say and called me out when I was slipping below what he thought I was capable of. I HIGHLY reccomend taking his class.
