I will start by saying this is a history class so there are 4 papers (2 page in length) and one final paper. Dr. Hoerle is the best professor I have ever had hands down. Really cares for the students and gives meaningful feedback. Really puts time into an online class. Material is top notch and notes are very clear and helpful.

Comment:

Hands down the best professor I've ever had. I've taken almost all of his available classes and wish there were more! I feel like I've learned more through his courses than in any "regular" memorize-and-regurgitate type class. He's incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. You will absolutely not regret taking any of his courses.

Comment:

Professor Hoerle inspired me to pick up a history minor. His classes consist of no exams, just 4 short papers and one longer research paper. This is something that I like and feel that I gain a lot from. I have taken his WWI class as well as Nazi Germany. Will definitely continue to take his classes in the future. Extremely helpful and kind.

Love Prof Hoerle! This is the third class I've taken with him. I'm a psych major, but I picked up a history minor so I could take more of his classes. There's lots of reading and lots of writing for the course, weekly discussion posts, 4 2 page critiques and an 8 page term paper, but he is super helpful and always offers tons of feedback.

Have taken 3 courses already with this Prof and taking a fourth this spring. Very knowledgeable about German history and culture, as well as the underlying causes of the World Wars. Makes you think but is also extremely helpful when there are questions. A great Professor!

Hands down the best professor I have ever had EVER. Honestly, the UMass experience hasn't been that great, but Professor Hoerle revitalized my ambition to succeed and finish my degree. His classes are the only thing keeping me from dropping out. His work is clear and concise & does expect a lot, but will work with you to get you there.

This professor is AWESOME! Man if you like a history class without tests, TAKE HIS CLASS! Yeah you have to write essays but it is so much easier than remembering a bunch of dates and such for an exam. Prepare to learn a lot if you take his course.

Took Stalin's Russia and Nazi Germany and will take more. Great prof - very knowledgeable - very helpful - clear expectations - really goes out of his way to help you learn - expect lots of reading, to write clearly cited papers, and to engage in material in critical/analytical ways. Professor Hoerle is very knowledgeable in this subject. He has studied the Holocaust for many years and his Ph.D is in Modern Germany History specializing in the Culture of the Third Reich. He is a very helpful professor who wants to see his students succeed. If you show up to class and pay attention you will do very well in his class.

Prof. Hoerle is why students remember their mentors. Online course is engaging and interesting. You have to do the reading and be prepared to write, but he is one of the most genuine, helpul teachers I have ever had. Truly a teacher. Would encourage anyone to take his course.

I took three different classes with this Dr. Hoerle and would take another three with him. He used the Socratic method to teach, but it is very effective. I would recommend taking any class he teaches. Typically gives two exams and one term paper. Be prepared for the class and you will get the most out of it.

An excellent teacher! Challenging coursework that kept me engaged for the duration of the semester, was always very polite and explained things well, despite the difficulties that teaching in the online medium can present. Will definitely try to take more online classes with him in the future!!!

This guy is so engaging. I didn't even buy the book but I got an A because his lectures were so clear and interesting. He actually made me wanna study History even though I'm an engineering major. He is so intelligent and helpful, I was mad that the only other classes he taught were for History Majors Only. The books he assigned were fantastic

This man has nice lectures. He's easy to understand. He uses powerpoints for most of his lectures. He doesn have one really big paper based on 4 books that are tough to read. Otherwise he is really easy to understand and his tests are a little difficult. He is willing to help any student with understanding and their work.
