William Irvine is funny but his lectures are just not helpful. For half of the semester he wouldn't even do problems in class he'd just put them on the projector and point at them. The majority of my classmates skipped class because they were basically learning the material from the book anyway. If you're sharp, class can help, otherwise skip it.

this is by far the kindest math professor I've ever had. He usually let you go like half hour early, and he always talks humourous jokes making this class not boring.I've taken cal1 to cal5, believe me, take him

Makes a lot of old/math related jokes. Is an alright professor, but I did feel bad for those without a background in calculus. Calc is not a subject that is easy to teach in a lecture hall. Tests are standard calc dept. tests so study the previous years tests. Also keep up with the homework from the textbook. Attendance not mandatory.

So long as you do the recommended work for understanding, do the required WebAssign homeworks, submit the required recitation work, and study for the exams, there's no question you'll do fine. Professor Irvine is an alright lecturer who FREQUENTLY tells stories and lets class out early (up to 45 minutes early or so). No attendance taken ever.

This is is by far the worst professor I've had for math. He has horrible teaching skills, all he does is recopy the pages from the book, the only reason I was able to understand was by reading the book myself and looking for external help. He doesn't care for his students, one bit. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE. He assumes everyone has a calculus background.

Bill is honestly a great guy and teacher, he's getting old so some things are no up to par with him essentially. He's highly knowledgeable in his field, even in calc 1 alone. He adds some humor every class so the lectures are great and he tells stories a lot too. His exams are a little easy and that 's bad for the final but he prepares you for it.

William did not use email, Powerpoints, or Sakai effectively as a professor making it very difficult to stay on top of assignments that were due at different points throughout the week. Most of the class read the book during his lectures instead of listening because he would often go on tangents and had unorganized hand writing. Nice man though.

He says his exams are easy, NO. He throws in random stuffs all the time. NO curve in the class. He tells lots of life stories instead of teaching. He knows a lot, just his teaching style isn't like any other math professors.

He doesn't teach in the class, tells personal stories and wastes the time. If you want to learn something take another professor. He also doesn't know most of the concepts and programming involved since he is not a mathematician.

Bill Irvine is an absolute boss!! If you want an easy professor then take this guy. His exams are extremely straightforward and his lectures always end early. As long as you do most of the homework there is no reason why you cannot be successful in this man's class. He also tells incredibly funny jokes to keep you entertained.

He's absolutely useless, --he spends the entire class telling life stories that nobody really cares about--but his exams are incredibly easy. I got an A in this class with very little effort.

Irvine's a quality teacher. He teaches the material efficiently and effectively, and he makes classes interesting by taking breaks to tell stories and jokes. He also applies mat hto real-world situations, a rarity among teachers I've had. Finally, his exams are very straightforward - no curveballs. He's a good guy, and I'd take him again anyday.

This class was amazing. Lectures were a pleasure to attend. Mixes the perfect blend of stories and the material. I was very well prepared for the exams and he taught us exactly what we needed to know. When came the final not made by him, I'm confident Irvine's section (Honors) did exceedingly better then the other sections. A class you must take.

i really enjoyed this class. he goes over the same exact problems in the book. he spends a lot of time telling funny stories, but still manages to complete all the material in each lecture. kept me awake at 9:15 in the morning! never visited his office hours because he told us exactly what to study for the midterms, which were not bad at all.
