I loved Lopresti when I took him for the first real class as a sociology major, soc theory. He does ramble on in lectures, but he speaks from experience and wants to know your opinions and what you think about what is discussed in class. He is sweet and caring of his students, and even let me retake my final when I slept through it when I was sick.

Lopresti is a great professor. He is very intelligent and passionate about what he teaches. You have to pay attention. Do the readings, participate in class, do well on the tests and he will respect you. Everyone who gives a bad review didn't do what they were supposed to. Yes, he's not the easiest but thats a good thing, you don't want it too easy

Extremely boring. Does not even answer his own questions. He asks you questions and if you don't answer the way he wants you to answer, he says its wrong, and repeats exactly what you responded. Talks to much does not teach enough. He is old and it does not respect different perspectives from students. DO NOT TAKE HIM! SAVE YOURSELF FROM HIM!!!!!

The only thing I learned was never to take a class with him again. He's easily the worst professor I have ever had. Doesn't know how to teach. Readings he says are required are never discussed in class. Never actually talks about the theories and concepts we read about in the textbook. Overall, just a terrible professor.

Honestly, he's not all that bad. He's super unorganized & will send out various emails re-emphasizing points made in class, paper requirements & an impromptu study guide. A total of 5 papers - including midterm & final & a 10 pg term paper. Long lectures but at least skim thru the readings before class. Not an easy A, but not a very hard A either.

Prof. Lopresti is a really good professor if you like corny english jokes and writing papers. I'm looking to go into a counter-terrorism career and Lopresti's class is really helpful in understanding the concepts of terror. If you don't like doing work or reading DO NOT TAKE HIM! I got an A on midterm ... Plus, he lets us out early all the time!

Spends entire lecture rambling about his opinions instead of discussing readings. No class interaction, essay grading is subjective, will grade poorly if he disagrees with your opinion. Took the class because I was very interested in understanding terrorism but he ruined the topic for me. He speaks to you like you're incapable of understanding him.

He does talk a lot, sometimes about his past, he'll involve you in the conversation though. Pay attention, when he sees you zone out he calls on you. Will sometimes ask questions about the book. Essays usually relate to the book(s).

Honestly? I love Professor Lopresti. He's definitely an old grump, so if you don't get dry humor and anecdotes from the past, I would skip. You do get used to him, though, and as long as you turn up on time and pay attention and keep up on readings (VERY IMPORTANT) you'll be okay with him.

Old guy who likes to ramble in class, but eventually you'll understand his connection to the topic. He'll do most of the talking, he'll call on you randomly, and will show movies. Homework is unclear and he won't review it in class, but expects you to be reading. He likes GOOD writing skills. I've taken him twice.

You need to be a good writer for this guy. He values writing skills. You'll write some papers, and you have to do the readings. If you back up what you say, then you're fine and you'll get a good grade. Lectures are mandatory, you can't miss class.

The only way to pass this class is to do the readings. Discussions in class do fall within the same area of the readings, but usually don't really have to do with what's on the tests. He's very smart, but can be really condescending and arrogant at times. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I don't think teaching is the best profession for him.

This is a great professor and a good guy who knows his stuff. I think students don't bother to really absorb the material and he can tell. His class taught me a lot and the reading is interesting. He goes off on tangents, but usually to drive home a point he's making. He is NOT a harsh grader if you can actually show you understand the reading.

Really sweet person, but bad teacher. All he does in class is ramble about the readings. Assignments are unclear. All tests are based on the book not what he discusses in class.

He was a terrible professor. He graded based on how much he liked a student. Picks on everyone in class. All he does is sit in the front of the classroom and complain and fail students.

Rambles off topic during class but expects you to leave class understanding the point of his lecture. Very harsh grading, expects word for word from textbooks in the essays given. Expects students to keep up with reading.

Brutal. Just Brutal. Rambles, has no clear thesis, and I feel like he just makes things up as he goes along. His grading policy is completely unclear, which is really frustrating when you get your grades. He's a really sweet, nice man, but not a good professor.

Assigns two textbooks and two novels and you pretty much have to incorporate them all in a lot of essays. Watched films, had to write papers on those. Kinda long winded. Really smart and up with contemporary society. Calls out students who don't participate. His jokes aren't that funny but he's really nice; a little cocky about his degrees.
