Dr. Madden is so passionate about chemistry, and it is very obvious within his lectures. He is engaging and throws in a few jokes through his lectures, which makes them easier to listen to. He expects you to be responsible for your learning but doesn't leave you hanging in class. If you care about the content more than the credit, take Madden.

Dr. Madden is very passionate about Chemistry, which is a great quality in a professor, however he doesn't simplify the material he teaches, which makes it hard to follow along when it's a freshmen chem course. He is also quite the tough grader and will throw in problems on the tests that weren't in the review.

His lectures are terribly difficult to follow. He often goes off on tangents and it's difficult very to weed out what's important and what isn't. He rarely posts grades, so it's difficult to see how you're doing. Although an interesting person, having him for chemistry has been unpleasant.

I had him to University Chem lab. Great guy, funny, and knowledgeable. Always explains the labs in extreme detail. He tells you how to do calculations and basically guides you through the entire lab process if you can listen carefully. He is very helpful. Lab usually gets out early.

Professor Madden was an excellent teacher for University Chemistry 1. Although he showed up late a few times (only about 5-10 min) he was always prepared to teach the material in an organized fashion. We only needed the book for homework as he provides all of the information you need in his presentations. Show up + do homework = easy A.

I took Madden during the summer semester with 4 other people. He makes material interesting using analogies to make abstract concepts understandable. He was consistently 5-10 mins late for class and sometimes went a little overtime. When he gives you a practice exam, just make sure you know the equations from it and youll be fine. Hes ENTP

Excellent teacher, take him whenever you can! Offers plenty of extra credit, extensions on work, and opportunities to do well without sacrificing your learning. Don't waste money on the textbook (I never touched it and got an A), just buy the OWL subscription online.

All around funny guy, great teacher waits for students to come in his office for questions. Always willing to help and stretch around to get u a passing grade. He prepares you for the tests through his powerpoint and OWL assignments even though the OWL assignments can be a pain. but all around good guy

If you like powerpoint and chatting on AIM during class take Madden. It is one of the most boring and uninformitive lectures ever. Nothing seems to be explained very well, syllabus is lack luster, and labs were random, and the directions for them were non exsistant.
