Only gives 3 tests but they are take home and as long as you come to class and take the notes and use the books you will pass easily. He is a very interesting professor and is very respectful of students and their opinions in class discussion.

Professor Murphy is a well respected man, also a retired state trooper. His classes are fun and interesting and he gives personal experience in the cj field which makes class interesting. overall an amazing teacher and very funny, do the reading and care about the class and you will love his class.

Comment:

This was my first time taking Professor Murphy & I can honestly say, he has impacted my life. He is extremely knowledgeable, & will do absolutely anything to help you succeed. & most importantly, he teaches you a multitude of things to take with you beyond the classroom. 2 books, 3 take home exams (20 Q's / mini essay), 1-3 papers, & presentation.

Comment:

I had higher expectations based on some of the reviews here. He is a harsh grader, and it is pretty much impossible to do the group presentation the way he wants. Because we got behind in the class, the book quizzes ended up being take home, otherwise, it would have been impossible to pass any. Dont text, he will kick you out of the class.

THE absolute best professor at Bridgewater State. If you read the syllabus as stated in the beginning of the course and follow his directions on assignments you are going to absolutely pass the class. He is very accommodating if you need it and if I wasn't graduating in May I would be taking all my classes with him next semester!!

Comment:

Took Murphy for the 1st time and was not as satisfied as past reviews. While he is very interesting to listen to due to being a Mass State Police Captain, He is an EXTREMELY tough grader and his feedback sucks. He assigned 4 papers and 2 presentations in this course as well as a book to read with quizzes. Just be prepared with a heavy coarse load.

He's probably the best professor I've had so far. He is clear about what he wants from you and will help you along the way if you ask. He's a bit of a tough grader on the two papers that he assigns but if you pay attention to the guidelines in the syllabus then you should do fine. He does randomly call on people so beware and pay attention.

Took 2 classes with him. Probably the nicest, funniest, most interesting, and awesome professor I had a bridgewater. Kinda bummed I dropped the CJ major cause I'd totally sit through another one of his classes. He's willing to help you out as much as he can. Hope I bump into him at a bar some day, cause I'd definitely drink some beers with him.

He wasn't a Chief as some other have stated, he's a retired Captain from the Mass State Police. That being said, read his syllabus. He treats the syllabus like standard operating procedures, or like scripture if you're into that sort of thing. I'm telling you read it front to back, twice. Put in the effort and he bends over backwards for you.

Follow his syllabus and engage in topic conversation. Awesome Professor. He really cares about the students and he put a lot of effort and research in his lectures. I had him in the past and I would take him again if I could. One of the best and nicest Professors I have had at BSU.

Murphy is a great professor. Just show up to class and do the work! Read the syllabus, study for exams, and participate. If you skip contantly don't expect to pass because you don't deserve it! If your not going to put the effort in at college, don't waste your money!

Professor Murphy is a pretty good teacher. He tells you exactly what he expects from and doesn't accept any less. As long as you read the syllabus VERY carefully the class isn't difficult. Only complaint would be he assumes everyone wants to do police work, when there are other careers in the crju system. Other than that he's a great guy.

Capt. Murphy is a good, down-to-earth guy. His ethics class was very entertaining and I learned a great amount from him. His class is easy if you READ THE SYLLABUS! Pay attention to every small detail and requirement for each assignment or you will receive a failing grade. I learned a lesson from the class but still did very well.

Amazing class! Amazing professor! You won't regret taking this class, as long as you know to work hard and not procrastinate. As long as you read and follow the syllabus you're set. There are 3 quizzes, 4 papers. One of the papers is a group paper and the other is for a debate, which is also a group project. I was so nervous about the debate but it turned out great. Take this class!
