He is an amazing professor. He makes lectures very interesting and is always going to make you laugh! The only things that count for our grades are the tests. I wish there were at least a few small assignments here and there to help our grades out. Be sure to study, and attend the study sessions if you can. I recommend this professor to everyone.

There are four exams with a take home essay for each exam. I purchased the book and never opened it, however, I still received an B. Everything you need to know he mentions it during lecture. I have enrolled in history 102 for next semester. I highly recommend Dr. Newell.

Newell is the G.O.A.T. His classes are an immense pleasure. Had him for 101 and took 102 even though I didn't need it just because of how awesome he is. Tests are easy if you take good notes. Trust me, he'll change your life. He changed mine. I'm now considering becoming a teacher because of him. I would listen to him give a lecture on paint drying

His class was absolutely incredible. Hes so captivating and the lectures he gives are very information filled. Hell definitely make you interested in history. He always finds a way to make it interesting and understandable. Exams are a big thing in the class but as long as you take your notes and study youll do fine. Definitely recommend.

Dr. Newell is a living textbook, I swear! His class was very engaging and I learned a lot. Class is lecture-based, so there is a lot of writing as he speaks. Exams/final are straightforward and not cumulative. Attend SI sessions to help your grade.

Hands down best professor. I took 3 of his history classes and I was always looking forward to attend every lecture. His exams are pretty easy if you actually study. No homework, you just need to write a ton of notes. I will always recommend him to anyone looking for a great history professor!!

Take really good notes and pay attention to in-class lectures. There are no lectures online. His lectures are interesting and highly is part of you getting an A in his exams. Grades depend only on total of your 4 exams, some have essay writings, but he gives you all the information you need in class. No assignments or extra credits. STUDY!

He has got to be the best history prof. at MJC. Maybe even in California, no exaggeration! There is never any homework so take good notes (which isn't hard) and you'll do just fine on the exams. If you can, go to the SI sessions those are very helpful. You don't even need the textbook. He gives you a reading emphasis but he goes over in class.

Mediocre. I have a difficult time retaining historical facts (always have), so everyone recommended I take his class. Then I realized that even with this SUPPOSEDLY amazing professor and going to the SI sessions 50% of the time, I still got a C even studying. Everything based on essay tests/multiple choice tests. The essays saved me from failing.

There are zero assignments for this class. 100% of your grade is tests. His tests include many multiple choice questions along with essays. Keeps lectures interesting, but there's no assignments or any visual papers to learn from. If you're a visual learner I do not recommend this class. You have to go off his lectures and take good notes.
