From the "Chair of Permanent Inattention" to the way he explained the great philosophical concepts of that day's lecture, Fr. Ryan was legend, that rare combination of scholar and humorist, Gonzaga's Mark Twain. 30 years later, I remember him vividly. I understand he just retired, and from legions of former students, I confidently say "Salute!"

I'm just giving him 5 stars because he is funny and easy! Literally walks around and corrects your tests while you do. You don't even have to read/buy books for the class. He never lectures correctly - just tells weird stories. He has a Facebook that always "gets hacked." One thing - he takes attendance, but you'll wanna go to this class anyways.

I took a Philosophy course from Fr. Ryan in the late 90s. Yes, forgetful ... He forgot to attend our final then! I'm surprised and happy to hear he's still teaching. The man has surely forgotten more about philosophy - and lots of other things, too - than most of the rest of us will ever know. He is a dear man and a treasure. Take class from him.

Ryan is a nice man with good intentions, but definitely shouldn't be teaching any more. He forgets things all the time and grades are entirely based on how much he likes you or whatever grade he feels like handing you at the time. Choose someone else if you are interested in preparing for the next philosophy level.

Father Ryan is hilarious! Despite his senile moments and getting off track every few seconds he repeats his points every lecture and makes it clear what he is looking for on the tests. Often talks about Bow Wows and Kitty Cats.

Father Ryan is great! I dont know what all these others who say hes not good at teaching the concepts are talking about. He repeats himself a TON and writes down literally everything you need to know. His multiple chice questions are confusing sometimes, but essays are easy and he is hilarious!

Fr. Ryan is a very cool guy; however, he is also a bit senile; loves to tell the story of the Roman wall, and Noam Chomsky;Loves the Chicago Bears; Doesn't like 'bonding' b/c FUN 101 is not chemistry class; If you get the chance, do something stupid (i.e. break window) so you can sit next to him in the seat of permanent inattention; Heckle him lots

I found Father Ryan extremely unclear in his presentation of the material and even more rude in his treatment of students. His tests are easy if you teach yourself the material, but he's very unorganized.

Hilarious, but definitely senile. You never know what may come out of the guys mouth. If you get the chance, take a class from him, because although he's not the clearest professor, his comments make it worth it.

Best teacher ever! If anything, just knowing him makes me happy. He does forget things a lot which makes his class both entertaining and hard at the same time. When I am old and senile, I want to be just like him...

Fr. Ryan is a funny guy, but to be completely honest, he is rather absentminded. He repeats the same things over and over again in class, and sometimes confuses us with his other class (ie trying to give us tests over things we didn't do). He makes Philosophy a little confusing at times with his tangents that don't really make sense.

He is a great guy. He has a hilarious sense of humor, but it takes you awhile to realize it. I hated the subject matter but it was my favorite class to sit through because he made it great. I would highly recommend him!
