Greatest Professor at UCI! His lecturing style is traditional, but very effective. If you come to lecture, ask questions, and pay attention in class, you''ll get your A. He only gives 2 midterms based on the readings and 1 final paper.

Amazing lecturer! Be prepared to read alot but the material is really interesting and thought provoking. Never a bad day in that class because he keeps you wanting to know more. Overall amazing lecturer. Be prepared to read alot but the material is actually very interesting. He does an amazing job in explaining the concepts and comparing every philosopher. I took this class W18 of my freshmen year. I thought I was reading would be required. I read 1 book and got too lazy to read the rest. Show up to class and listen and understand the concepts and you'll be fine. Final is a 7-12 page essay. One nighted it and turned out fine. Do the think pieces for free 15% of your grade. Do not skip class for freeA

This was a very good class, but I don't recommend it as a first or second year. I took it as a third year after taking all of Professor Topper's courses (which included almost all the readings) and that made this my easiest class since I only ended up having to read the last book. He's a great professor though and I recommend him for third years.

Schonfeld's lectures are really interesting and hilarious! He goes over important quotes from the books that will appear on the exams and comes up with relatable examples to help us better understand the concepts, and it's funny watching him walk around roasting other people too. Schonfeld is an absolute savage of a professor and person! Take him!

This class was required for my major but it was not a burden at all. I did not get any of the books and just studied lecture notes and discussion notes and I did fine. His exams are not super hard if you study your notes. He lectures for only an hour and makes jokes during lecture to keep us awake lol but overall great class and professor

There were seven books that were required for the class, but I did not read them. I showed up to lectures and paid attention. Also take good notes. He went over quotes from the texts verbatim and explained them. I recommend reading the one text needed for the final paper. It will make your life easier. I didn't read it. It was hell.

I want to preface my rating first by clearly stating that, if you take a class with Schonfeld, you shouldn't skip lectures. He presents the material in a very intriguing and intuitive way, mostly relating to current events and real life scenarios. The exams are strange, but if there was one word I would use to describe them, I'd say they were fair.

Schonfeld was such a great professor. Make sure to take note of the quotes he mentions in class as they show up on the exams. Final paper requires you to synthesize all of the books read throughout the course (about 7). Other than that, he was an awesome guy and hilarious!

Professor Schonfeld made the class a lot more exciting than what I had imagined the would be like. Reading the books would certainly benefit you a lot more than just showing up to class, but make sure to still go to class. He hilariously connects the old philosophical thinkers to modern situations. Remember quotes and concepts about each thinker!

Schonfeld is engaging and entertaining, but be aware that he doesn't use powerpoint. So you have to be ready to take good notes and fast ones at that. He has a clear knowledge of the subject and goes above and beyond to teach it. He assigns a lot of reading but if you go to lecture you don't have to read everything. 10/10 would take again.

Literally, if you show up to class and understand the core concepts of what he is talking about you will get an A on every test and never have to read. In regards to the professor himself. He understands that this is a liberal college and challenges those beliefs. Very inspirational, made me question my thinkings on more things than just politics.

Amazingly funny and interactive, especially with those by the aisle. Explains cocepts very well and always asks for questions if you didn't understand something. A lot of reading assignments that you don't "have to" read, but you'd be better off if you did. Pretty much the type of good quality college professor you'd think of.

Funny guy. Doesn't care about your feelings so if you are sensitive don't sit close to the aisles cause he is extremely interactive. Very enjoyable and insightful prof. The cane joke still gets me. Would take again if I could.

Professor Schonfeld is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He loves to discuss ideas and connect them from various authors. He likes to walk around while lecturing and connecting ideas to modern things that we would understand. He is great at helping you understands and encourages questions to be asked during lecture.
