Dr. Stockton is an interesting professor. He does not give very clear direction on just about anything. The two assignments you get points from are discussions and exams. Both are worth so many points that if you miss one thing, it's already a B. Just make sure that you make him clarify EVERYTHING. He is very forgetful. Would not recommend.

Be ready to read a different book every week and have a discussion in his Western Civ. class. His classes are extremely interesting. He makes a good point of connecting past events with the present. I super appreciate his insight and overall knowledge.

Decent guy but not a great teacher. No 'definite' notes. Some days, he will pull up pictures from google and just talk about it the entire class period. None of it really helps you out at all. Tests are take home and mostly simple. You will still pass even if you don't show up for class.

Hands down, one of the worst teachers I have had at JCCC. You leave class without learning anything and everything he talks about doesnt really help you out for the tests. Only good thing is that the tests are take home. I would not take him again.

His classes are great and he is an amazing Professor. If you are not the hardworking type do not take his Western Civ. Course, there is a novel a week with discussion and 2 large essays throughout the semester. He is very intelligent and can teach above his course work from time to time. His classes are not for the faint of heart but he is great.

Have to read a book every week and have a discussion over it. Do the assignment, write the question, participate and you'll be fine. Awfully boring class though. Not very friendly towards other opinions which is supposedly what the whole class is based upon, incredibly suggestive. Time consuming, don't take with harder classes.

Fantastic Professor, very funny and personable. Quizzes are weekly and right out of the book, and you leave the class really feeling like you understand how the human race took the turns that it did to become a superpower. He gives several real life examples of everything. The only downside is that he's not very willing to work with students.

Lectures are not clear and structured, so you levae class not having really learned the content. Weekly readings are the only thing that help. A lot rambling. Shows clear bias against Abrahamic religions and makes snide comments often. Weekly quizzes, 2 essays per semester and test are identical to study guides- only positive.

Stockton is a great professor. He is really engaging and makes a boring class interesting. There is a lot of reading, but its worth it. I hadn't finished a book in years until his class. So don't let that detour you. If I wasn't transferring I'd happily take one of his classes again. He also genuinely cares about his students.

I've had Prof. Stockton for a few classes. He's hilarious and will keep you awake. Likes to poke fun at students, so be able to laugh at yourself a little. He's extremely passionate about what he teaches (especially medieval history) and it shows. He's usually a couple minutes late and fairly disorganized, but it's worth it. He knows his stuff!

Stockton is really passionate about his courses which is awesome, but the lectures were long and drawn out with little explanation. Going off topic was the usual in everyday class. However, the exams are the exact same as the reviews so passing the class is very easy.

William Stockton is my favorite professor at JCCC. He is the most engaging and enthusiastic educator I have had the privilege to learn from. I took his Religions of the East class for humanities and was blown away. After that I took his Greek and Roman history for fun. He is a wealth of knowledge and experience, fantastic attitude, and cares.

This is an amazingly smart teacher. He knows everything there is to know about history and religion. I will be taking more another class of his. However, be warned. You must be prepared to read A LOT. I have never had a teacher expect so much reading before. And he makes you work for an A. He isn't an easy grader at all.

Religions of the East - He rambles a bit. The information could be better organized as he jumps around a lot. His goal is to give you information. Grade is primarily from participation in the discussion. If you contribute you will do well. The test are take home short essays. Very passionate and a true expert in the field.

You have to read a book pretty much every week. Make sure you are there for the discussions or you won't pass. As long as you're ready to participate you will do fine.

I did not enjoy this class but Stockton is an awesome as a person. If you do not enjoy reading or talking in a discussion steer clear from this course. A lot of talking is required in this class, so if you are shy you will not pass. A lot of the text was very difficult for most to read.

Participation gets most of the grade in discussions. Talking to a few friends, it doesn't look like it takes that much participation to get an A for the discussion. They would only say a few things and get an A. I never understood the test grading. He gives you the questions before hand and I prepared but never did as well as expected.

His tests are hard and the class requires you to read sections of a new book every week. If you try and participate in discussions you are golden. The tests are all about analyzing the material you read through the semester and aren't easy, but they are do-able if you try. I dreaded this in the beginning, but turned out he is one of the best
