Comment:
Bill is my least favorite professor. He has WAY too heavy of a course load for HCI. He is unprofessional, grades his assignments subjectively, and teaches a design course but rejects modern design. He will artificially lower your grade to be below an A, as he doesn't allow A's in his class. Don't plan on exiting his class with a 4.0 (rip mine)

Bill White can be a hard ass about things but he's the best professor in the whole CS department at SIUE. If you want to actually learn then take his classes, he's also very charismatic and down to earth. This man knows his stuff and is willing to help you every step along the way, don't be dissuaded by other reviews. Great professor, none like him

Decent professor, nice guy. Whole class is spent lecturing, unless it's a test day. Doesn't take attendance, but he's a big fan of pop quizzes, so if you're going to skip be aware of this. He's often called a harsh grader, and while he is admittedly nit-picky, if you do the work and turn it in you should make out with at least a C no problem.

He does not provide useful feedback, and he is overly strict in his grading. You will never get a perfect on ANY assignment that he gives. He seems to go out of his way to make sure of this. Horrible professor.

He is very knowledgeable and I have learned a lot in his class. The lectures do tend to be long and sometimes boring. Overall he is a pretty good professor. I recommend going to his office hours as he was usually helpful. There is a semester long group project which isn't too bad. If you have a crappy team member, let him know and he will handle it

Offers the best as far as assignments and learning possibility. The workload is significant but Dr. White will make time for appointments for guidance. As most reviewers point out he is quite critical with his grading so only take his courses if you don't mind the hit to the GPA. Honestly upon reflection it is well worth taking classes with him.

Pros: Most organized prof. I've ever seen. You will learn a lot from his classes. Cons: Goes on tangents, often claims your projects are "perfect" when you show them to him before you turn them in yet still takes points off. He honestly feels like no one ever deserves an A, but getting a B should be easy in his classes. All exams are essays.

Terrible terrible instructor. Constantly gives out quizzes two minutes before class ends, holding you over. He yells at you if you drink water in class. Tests are in-proportionally difficult to course material and he has no scientific competence. He referred to gravity as a theory once. Don't take this guy.

When the mean grade for the professor's quizzes is 40% and the mean grade for his half of the tests is under 60%, you know he's just great at his job. Nothing on the study guides or notes appear in the test.

Worst professor yet. Horribly monotone and hard to keep focused. Doesn't explain topics but expects perfection on exams. I study hard and worked hard for this class and received a very low C. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS

I really can't speak lowly of this man as a professor or as a personality. He is admittedly quite knowledgeable of computer science. However, he is simply a horrible teacher and is terribly antisocial. He talks on and on about a small portion of the material, goes over the limit every class, and does not respond to questions or provide real help.

One of the best profs i had around. yes he is incredibly hard, but if you can survive you will know you stuff. i will be the first to say i tend to prioritize his classes above others. while attendance is not required those who do no attend class will regret it.

All right when i went in first signed up for this class i had heard all the talk about him being the hardest of any CS prof around. and yes it was a hard class but nowhere near what i heard. He will gladly help you out with problems you have. just make sure you don't go to him for help when you have to be somewhere soon. complainers need to man up.

Abandon all hope of getting an A. However, If you're looking to learn as much as possible, then by all means take as many of his classes as you can. He expects you to spend 2-3 hours outside of lecture for each hour in lecture in order to get a B. IDK what it would take to get an A because I've never seen anyone get one in his class.

TENURED! Doesn't matter what you think of this awful wretch of a man. He made an introductory level freshman course the hardest and most time consuming class I have ever taken. Starts of difficult but he helps alot. After the drop date. U r on ur own!!! Avoid him at all costs. Klein is ur man. I pulled an all nighter about once a week. Test avg 50.

I learned more from the book than him. Also, very hard grading, no curve (even when class avg is D or F), and way too many quizzes/assignments.
