As a classical musician taking this class back 4 years ago, I learned a lot about jazz history and music. Professor James was very knowledgable about the subject as the matter of fact, after this class I really got into the jazz music, because of this class I really started to appreciate jazz music!

The whole class was Armenian except for like three people. How does that happen? Poor professor had to deal with their rude talking during every single lecture. Not to mention Dr. James is at least 80 years old...

I love jazz, and Dr. James knows how to teach it. Book isn't really needed except for the first test. He can be a bit harsh to certain "peoples" at times, but other than that, he's pretty chill. 4 concert reports and 4 tests with listening portions.

Listen- the key to this class is not the book, its the CD'S You dont need the book,because he makes up questions for the tests and gives you the answer 5 minutes before taking the test. YOU DO need to MEMORIZE the music for the test, so buy the CDS.

Mr. James requires you to have a have the book for Jazz history, but you'd be stupid not to get the book. There's a bit of lecture, and then some listening on the day of the test, so that you can get the listening portion of the test. That's fine, but be aware that the free jazz and fusion songs later in the class are upwards of ten minutes.

This class was soo boring. Hes old and doesnt stop talking with his ancient jokes. He might be old but he knows what hes doing when it comes to cheating. He catches people and warns you second time is an automatic fail from my experiences!

this was 1 of da easiest classes at valley. u have to buy da book which costs 90 dollars and u have 2 go 2 class everyday or else he will drop u. He has been using the same tests 4 proabably 10 years now so if u know some1 who took da class, u can just get it from them. other then that u have to go to 3-4 concerts and come to class. EASY A!!!!!

So boring yet so easy. Attendance is mandatory if you skip too much he will drop you. Really nice guy, he probably has been teaching since the dawn of time. You get to listen to some pleasent music and attend out of school concerts. He also revues for the test right before the test!

if you like sleeping this is the class for you. This is most boring class i eer took in my life. He reviews right before the test, so no studying needed. Bring homework for other classes or a good pillow as you going to need it. He repeats everything he says about 10 times. You going to have to go to 4 performance but he don't read the reviews

i thought that i am going to fail this course when i took it as an honors class. the teacher is very boring, talks all the time but puts beautiful classical music the whole sememster. his tests are easy(he goes over the actual test the day before) and the essay for the honors is on whatever is discussed the most in the class. very easy class to tak
