Zhou Laoshi honestly taught me so much through LC111 and LC112 as well. As long as you do homework and prepare for the quizzes, the class is a breeze. Although she can be kind of picky when correcting quizzes and take off points for very small things, she's overall a great teacher that encourages everybody to participate.

Professor Zhou was amazing! She was my favorite professor at BU this semester. As a first semester Freshman, she really took the time to help me during office hours and extra appointments and made my transition to college less stressful. She is also very detailed with what she wants for quizzes and tests (but makes it clear).

Zhou Laoshi is my favorite professor this semester. She really cares about all of her students and is willing to work with you to help you get a better grade. I am taking the next level of Chinese with her next semester because I like her so much (as is most of my class). Just spend an hour on the characters before the quiz.

Professor Zhou seemed pretty crazy at first, but she's really a nice professor who's genuinely interested in teaching the subject, as well as interesting cultural stuff. Kids who complain about her are the kids who simply didn't put the time int for the class. She grades tough on essays because that's the department policy. Tests are graded fairly.

i HIGHLY recommend taking another teacher for this class. not only does professor zhou belittle students under the spotlight, her custom made chinese chapters are ridiculously hard and she moves from one chapter to the next WAY TOO FAST. i genuinely liked chinese before taking her class, but while enrolled in her class, it was complete hell.

Zhou's a nice, knowledgeable teacher. She teaches well and the class is what you'd expect for a language class. Despite the fact that I don't care about the class, I'm glad she was my teacher.

One word: hard. Assumes everyone in LC116 has a PROFOUND prior knowledge of chinese when in reality a lot of us didn't. Our "language sense" was not as helpful as she claimed it to be. She's good if you know the language well. She'll breeze through topics so you can quickly fulfill your lang req. Not all that great if you actually want to learn.

Great teacher... She really got me interested in learning Chinese and was very helpful with any questions you ask. Just do the homework, study for the quizzes, and you can easily get an A.

Zhou Laoshi's class is not for slackers. I'm a slacker myself but she actually made me want to learn. She's very understanding and will really try to help you if you're struggling. Best professor at BU.

zhou laoshi is an amazing prof. i wasnt motivated in lc111/112 classes, but this year i loveee chinese. very standardized class. 1 chapter + 1 quiz + 1 hw /week. quizzes easy if you really study and shes a fair grader on midterm/homework... even though i try really hard i someitmes only get a B- (for a composition that took me over an hour)....

Chinese is a very difficult language, but Zhou Laoshi can teach it well. She makes us do drills which actually work. Tends to give out quizzes pretty often, so it actually forces you to study. If you want to do well, you are going to have do the work, just like any foreign language. I was able to pull off a decent grade from her as a result.

I dont know who said that this teacher is good, but they are obviously on crack! She doesnt do anything at all... her class is a complete waste of time. All you do is look up words on the dictionary every class, while she types up the book's chapter summaries for you. Basically you'll have to teach yourself chinese...

Beware if you are Asian and taking her class. She automatically assumes you have a complete knowledge of the language, and in turn grades harshly.

Be ready to work hard for a good grade. 1-2 quizzes PER WEEK and the class does move extremely fast. However she is very patient and very helpful. Do the work and you will get a good grade, if not an A.

Zhou Laoshi is THE BEST! She explains everything very clearly and makes sure that everyone understands. Group activities (such as skits), quizzes, and homework are a lot of work, but it really helps. She really cares about her students helps as much as she can. Wonderful professor, and one of the sweetest ladies on earth. Take Zhou Laoshi!

it isn't that she's hard, the midterm and final are difficult but she makes that up with other profs. the quizzes are memorization of characters so that is straight-forward, but she makes you do most of the workbook (painful). she is actually pretty nice, but she did not make chinese fun at all
