She said she is open-minded, but the fact is that she rarely accepts different opinions.I know ppl taking this course just as a gpa booster, and if you have finished senior high at china mainland, you will probably find it easy...

not a bad teacher. i hardly speak mandarin and she gave me a B+. As long as u attend her class and do your hw, u should be able to get a decent grade. Must attend audio labs as they'er easy to get marks and u leave class in 5 mins after the test.

Attendance is mandatory. She really cares about her students and your marks will reflect on your attendance. Even if you know your Chinese, you will not get an A unless you show up to class. This is a language course, so it's best if you know a few basics. Overall, few homework assignments given, relaxed yet enjoyable lectures and light course.

only need to go to class for quizes/exams & to pick them up. But then u lose participation marks. I'm definetely taking the next lvl w/her Not really hard either. High school of jpn, and i got a B in the first lvl of jpn in Lang. Never took chin and i'm getting like B/B+ Not really all that clear, but i still got it. she's nicer to white ppl

She's not a good teacher in that she not only has favorites but she is biased towards the chinese kids taking this course. She is so much friendlier and forgiving to the non-asians it makes my head spin. Because of this, I was very discouraged to go to class because she just doesn't show any respect or motivation. I won't be taking any more chinese classes with her next semester.

Tian DEFINETLY plays favorites... Can't really communicate with her until you ask questions/do well in her class. Very easy course, if you know your vocab, then it's a garantee A+ even if you are not her favorite student in class. Oral exams are the hardest cause she's very picky on pronounciation, so make sure you know those well.

This course is relaxing, but near the end of the semester, the material gets more difficult. She likes to pick on people that need help the most. Do the practice worksheets that she gives, practice pronounciation, know your vocabulary b/c she can get very critical. Don't worry, she is nice and helpful too. It's all up to you if you want to do well.
